Easter

Here's a breakdown of all our Easter festivities...

First, dyeing eggs.  I had Ivy only home on the Friday night before Easter and asked if she would like to dye eggs that night.  She did and she was able to invite Gracen over to join her.  I tried a new method that I saw on a TV segment that I liked so much better than the traditional method.  I'm going to type it out here so I remember for future years.

1.  Mix 1 T baking soda and 1 t water in one compartment of a muffin tin.  Stir it until it becomes like a paste.  Add food coloring to get intended color...as much or as little as you want.  The more drops, the brighter the color.  (We did six different colors in six different compartments.)

2.  Paint boiled eggs with food color/paste mixture.  Be creative and use as much color as you want.  If you mix the colors too much, you might end up with a brown egg.

3.  Pour vinegar over egg and watch it bubble and fizzle in the muffin compartment.  When it stopped "fizzling" we knew that the egg was done.

4.  Rinse with water and let dry.

We loved how the eggs turned out doing it this way!  They were so fun!

Easter morning-

We have church at 9 so there was not a lot of celebrating before that.  I had German pancakes with bacon, blueberries, and chocolate milk for anyone to eat when they were ready to do that since I figured we wouldn't sit down together to eat.  I had told the kids they could look for their Easter baskets before church if they were all ready to go and had some extra time.  Brynn and Ivy each found their baskets before church.

I didn't do Easter dresses/clothes this year.  After going through closets I realized no one actually needed any new church clothes but they did need spring/summer clothes.  So they each had to find something in their closets to wear for Easter Sunday.  Molly ended up wearing one of my dresses and Brynn and Ivy chose hand-me-down dresses that Molly once wore for her Easter dresses.  They all looked very cute and handsome!

**They all got to do some spring/summer wardrobe shopping at a different time.  The days are past that I dare choose clothes for them.

Church was just an hour and primarily music.  Ivy sang "I Know that My Savior Loves Me" with the primary.  It was a beautiful sacrament meeting.  Molly and Stockton found their Easter baskets when we got home and the kids hunted for the chocolate eggs that were hiding all over the house.

***Shhhh...don't tell but as of today, April 29th, there is still a chocolate egg that has not been found in my bin of piano books.

We had a few hours of relax time.  Some of us took naps, some of us built a blanket fort in the loft.  We ate candy and cleaned up from breakfast.  We took some time to do Come, Follow Me and we talked to my parents.  I threw an Olive Garden salad together and then we headed to Gene and April's house for Easter Sunday dinner.  It was just us this year with them so a quiet gathering.  Gene and April had hidden a goodie bag for each of us so we did that first when we got there.  Not sure whose idea it was to put the treats on our heads for the picture.  I think probably Justin.

We had a feast and stuffed ourselves to the brim.  Dessert was creme brulee and the girls got to help brown the sugar on top.  We had a spiritual message from our patriarch Gene and played a game before heading home.

Our last of the Easter celebrating was the following week.  We drove up to Plain City during the last session of Conference so we could start the party right at 4.  They were all ending their Spring Break and we were just starting ours.  I had filled 150 eggs and the other moms had gotten prizes.  Some of the eggs had a letter inside and the kids had to spell the names of the prizes with their letters.  The person who added the last letter and finished a word won that prize.  It was a fun and different way to do the egg hunt this year!

 These kids are growing up!
