all about Stockton

Stockton's biggest love right now is baseball.  His birthday present came right at the perfect time because he eats, drinks, and sleeps baseball.  Specifically Braves baseball.  We have never had cable but Justin got a free membership to mlb.com so they can watch the games on their phones.  He does that anytime the Braves play.  (It is, quite honestly, a huge distraction.) He knows all the players, their stats, their contracts, their standing in the league, and everything there is to know about the Braves.  Anytime I get him on his own in the car, he tells me who hit the cycle (and then he had to explain what hitting the cycle even meant) or who hit a home run or who signed what contract or what position they were in the league, and on and on.  It makes me smile to see him so passionate about it.  And I love it because it connects him and Justin big time since Justin is the exact same way.  They have definitely bonded this year over the Braves and baseball.  Of course, he still loves to play baseball as well.  I would say it's his favorite thing to do.

Right in line with that, his screen time these days is almost all baseball related.  Baseball highlights, baseball games, baseball sports talk, etc.  When I check the history on his phone or tablet, it is all MLB.com.  He is so like his dad.

Baseball has his heart but he is just a sports guy in general.  He's excited for a fantasy football league that his friend is hosting and he generally keeps up with the stories of all the leagues.

We did decide to get another "kid" phone this summer so that when Stockton was home baby-sitting we would have a way to contact him.  He has kind of adopted it as his own but his time limits are strict and he doesn't take it to school unless I'm going to need him to be reachable (like if I'm picking him up and don't want him to get on the bus). It's also a good way for him to stay in touch with some of his friends who have phones.  It has been working for our family.

Stockton still loves building things.  He's been on a Lego kick lately and builds different things with Legos.  He build me an awesome phone holder last week.  When his Kiwi Co box comes, he does that before anything else.  He was hoping to get into an honors STEM class this year but didn't get in.  That's a bummer because he really loves that kind of stuff.  He can still try next year so we'll cross our fingers he gets in for 8th grade.

He started his 7th grade year at Timpanogas Middle School last week.  He is a practiced middle schooler so it wasn't too big of deal for him.  He is mostly excited to have mallet percussion this year-made even better because 1. Kelton Webb is in the class with him this year and 2. he already knows how to play all the instruments so he just gets to get better this year.  He also enjoys PE (way better than last year when he somehow got put with 8th graders) and was super excited to get into stage crew which only takes a handful of kids each semester.

Stockton dislikes reading (sad) and is very good at avoiding cleaning his room (frustrating).

Stockton loves milk and drinks it religiously every morning for breakfast and has a glass each afternoon as well.

Stockton is getting better with his heights issue.  We did several things this summer that would have terrified him even a few months ago and he was able to do it.  He still doesn't love heights but doesn't panic quite as much. (Remembering rappelling and Bryce Canyon where he had major panic attacks.)  He is also a Lagoon junkie and has gone on all the rides possible (minus the rides that cost extra money).

Stockton is a friend to everyone.  This is a trait of his that I have long admired but I think it says something that he has kept this strength in the midst of middle school when so many kids are trying to be popular.  Stockton genuinely is a friend to all.  He is very adaptable and will hang out with kids with all sorts of different interests. Justin and I were just commenting about this the other night and how it will serve him well in life.

Stockton is a great friend but he doesn't have the need to be as socially active as Molly.  He always has a good time with friends, he just doesn't initiate a lot of friend time.  I don't know if he just doesn't think about inviting friends over or what but he is usually content to just hang out at home.  He still gets his sisters involved in a lot of different activities with him.

Stockton loves deacons quorum.  It might very well be up there with baseball.  He looks forward to activities each week.  He is even more excited now since Justin got a new calling last week that will put him with the deacons.  (More later, but think bishopric. ;))

Stockton likes veggies over fruits.  But only raw veggies, nothing cooked.  He's not really a picky eater but don't ask him to eat beans.  He has always hated them.  He is a chocolate lover like his mom!

Not sure Stockton still wants his stats recorded here, but here goes.  He was 4'9" (30%) and 73 pounds (12%) at his appointment this summer.  The height actually surprises me a little, I would have predicted that he was more in the 10-15%. He seems like he is still pretty small.  We bought mediums for school clothes this year, which is still in the 10-12 size rather than the 12-14 size.

Stockton prefers to wear quick dry T-shirts, golf shorts, and joggers.  No jeans for this boy.  I bought him three pairs of joggers for school-black, gray, and navy.  He should be set for the year!
