Grandkid Camp

Grandkid Camp was held June 24-26th this year.  The theme was "Around the World" and, like always, my mom went all out.  For the invitations, she had airplane boarding pass printed for everyone.  We were instructed to be at the cabin at 4:30 on Thursday afternoon.  Everyone was so happy to see each other!  They wasted no time getting out to play on the golf course.

My dad had made a sign with all the countries we would visit over the next day and a half.  My mom had a passport for each of the kids-they used the passports to write down/draw what they learned from each country and get their stamp.  I might get some of the activities mixed up with which country but I'll do my best.

The first country we visited was Italy.  We dined on pizza and salad.  We played a funny game where everyone thought of a fruit and when the person who was "it" called your fruit, you would run to a tree and back and try not to get tagged.  If you were tagged, you were it.  Then we played soccer on the golf course.  That was really fun.  And ice cream for dessert.

We had a campfire that night and roasted marshmallows.  I don't think that was part of any country, just something that we did for fun because we were at the cabin.

The kids had their new Grandkid Camp shirts to wear the next day.  They turned out so cute!

We went to France in the morning for crepes then to Australia.  We played some funny games that originated in Australia.

From Australia we went to the Netherlands.  While there, the kids were able to do a Picasso canvas painting.  It was fun to see how they all turned out different!

After the Netherlands was South Korea.  Molly was in charge of this one.  She wore Justin's traditional hanbok from his missions, showed mission pictures, and passed around some Aloe.  Everyone thought it tasted like drinking a Hi-Chew.

Ben did Argentina, Gavin did Brazil, and Chloe did St. Louis, Missouri.  (This is where all the dads served their missions.)  Brynn climbed the flag pole.  Seth was pretty good at climbing it as well.

It was rainy when we traveled to Hawaii so we took our games inside.  We played a pass the pineapple game, had a hula hooping competition and did the limbo.  Brynn won the hula hooping contest which wasn't really that big of a surprise but Molly came in second which was more of a surprise.  Brynn also won the limbo competition.  Someone needs to take that girl to Hawaii! (Later that night, the cousins set a stopwatch to see how long Brynn could hula hoop-she made it to 19 minutes when I stopped her for dinner.  Who knows how much longer she could have gone?)

After that was a trip to Zipz for Dole Whips or slushies-as tropical as you get in Bear Lake.

Part of France's activity had to be postponed while we waited for some road construction to clear out.  When we got back from Zipz we had a Tour de France bike race.  We had three groups of bikers and the three little girls were the cheerleaders.  This is also when both Seth and Spencer forgot how to brake and crashed off the side of the road.

That was it for the Grandkid Camp activities but not the end of the fun.  The parents were starting to trickle in for the rest of the weekend so the kids were able to have free time out on the grass and the golf course.  That was also the night we celebrated our new 12-year-old.

Saturday was play day.  My dad had reserved some tee times so the boys and dads did that while the girls, moms, and younger kids played at the cabin.  The three older girls went down and looked around some shops.

We decided to eat lunch at the cabin and then go down to the lake for the rest of they day.  It hadn't been a super warm summer weekend so we didn't mind waiting for the air to warm up a bit.  We spent the rest of the day on the lake.  The boat was getting fixed but we had jet skis and paddleboards and that was good enough for us.  Then it was back to the cabin for dinner, a pinata, and two thirds of the Goodrich family headed back to Heber.

Justin and Stockton had baseball and Molly and I had Girl's Camp on the next Monday morning so Brynn and Ivy were able to stay at the cabin a couple of extra days.  It looks like some of the other cousins got to stay as well-lucky them.
