Stockton turned 8 on Sunday, June 25th. We always tell him he has the perfect birthday-it is exactly 6 months after Christmas so he gets his gifts spread out perfectly. Plus it's summer, there's no school, etc...
Since his birthday was on Sunday this year and because we have 9:00 church, we didn't do much celebrating before church. He had requested French Toast for breakfast so I got up and made sure I had a nice stack all ready for him. Justin also gave him one of his gifts to open-a pack of football cards.
He was a good boy to wait for presents until after church but once we got home, he wasted no time in getting right down to it. Justin and the girls had prepared a scavenger hunt for him. He got a new water bottle filled with treats, two more stacks of cards-baseball and basketball, a John Stockton jersey (the thing he wanted most), and a kickball/4-square ball.
We had a quiet afternoon and he was able to browse through his cards and get them organized in his binder just how he wanted them.
Gene, April, and Brett drove up that afternoon for Stockton's requested dinner of meatballs (I can't remember the last time he requested anything different). We also had watermelon, salad, and grandma's homemade rolls with honey butter.
They gave Stockton some individual boxes of cereal, binoculars, and a flag football set.
Stockton was quick in getting everyone outside for a fun game of flag football. I was surprised at how good Stockton was...he was so quick weaving in and out that the rest of us had a hard time pulling his flags off.
His cake was a family effort. He picked chocolate cake and we tried to make it look like a baseball diamond. We had playdough ice cream with the cake which was what he wanted.
We spent the rest of the night visiting and playing more flag football until it was too dark to see and Grandma, Grandpa, and Brett had to go home.
My mom and dad came up the next day so they could watch Brynn and Stockton's T-ball and baseball games. They gave Stockton some new clothes, shoes, a hitting rope, and a badminton set, which we opened up to play with right away.
After the games, we went to dinner and sent grandma and grandpa on their way home.
Our celebrating wasn't quite done. Since it was not a friend party year, Stockton got to choose a family activity for us to do and he picked to go to the movie theater and see Cars 3. This worked out well for us because we still had so many gift cards that our whole family got in for free. Ivy wandered a little more this time at the theater but we made it through and it was given two thumbs up by everyone.
And that was it for birthday celebrations. We spent the next few days getting ready for his big baptism day which was so special. Happy Birthday, Stockton! We love this boy and our family would not be the same without him in it!
