We had a good time celebrating Molly's sixth birthday this year, starting with the night before the 15th. Grandma Kay, Grandpa Moyes, Chloe, Abby, Gavin, and Grant all came down to watch one of Molly's soccer games, which, incidentally, was the game that she really started to be aggressive. She was really happy that they were able to watch her play in one of her games. After the game, they all came over to our house for a little party. She opened lots of presents: a game, a Barbie, some Squinkies, a dance party Wii game, some clothes for her Molly doll, some clothes for her. Everyone was very generous and she was one happy girl.
We had cake next. Her cake was a huge M by request. She wanted it frosted pink with purple around the edges. She decorated it herself (with pink Whoppers and lots and lots of sprinkles).
Maybe the best part about her birthday was that Chloe and Abby got to sleep over. They laid their sleeping bags out downstairs and watched Barbie Thumbelina. They were almost too excited to even sleep!
They were also really excited to get up on what was Molly's real birthday! It wasn't too early...right at 7:00, I think. We had cinnamon rolls for breakfast and then some time to play. They went outside and colored pictures...I later found out that they were trying to sell them for $2 each! I think they even knocked on a couple of doors but nobody answered. Good thing!
About six months earlier I had bought a groupon for Color Me Mine so that's where we headed next. Each of the girls painted a unicorn and Stockton painted a dragon. They had lots of fun, at least I think they did!
My mom and dad had stayed in a hotel so when we were done they took the girls back home and we continued on with our day. Molly was in for a big surprise! We drove to Murray to the Humane Shelter and let her pick out a cat. This is something that we had been thinking about doing for a while so we finally just bit the bullet and did it. Molly didn't understand why we were there, she just thought we were looking at the cats for fun. When we told her what she was there for she ended up choosing a 5-month old black kitty named Panther. I was relieved with her choice because it was completely house trained, and it's a short hair which means it doesn't shed. It has been a good cat: no accidents, no shedding, and really good with the kids. Brynn likes to literally lay on top of him or ride him like a horse. He puts up with Brynn and Stockton but I think he likes Molly most.
We brought Panther home and had a little party with just us. Molly opened her present: a Razor scooter, something she had really wanted. It has been used a lot in the last couple months. We also gave her a Leapster game.
Grandma April and Grandpa Gene came down the next day for dinner. They gave Molly an umbrella, a big frisbee and a basket for her bike. It was such a nice day outside so Molly was able to go try out both her basket and her frisbee.
She had a great birthday weekend!!
Now, what to say about Molly. She is such a nice, sweet, obedient, fun, sensitive, happy girl. We just love her and love the girl she is turning out to be. If she continues on this path, I don't think we will have any worries about her down the road. She is just good to the core! She is very kind to everyone. She often comes home from school and tells me about the kid who didn't have anyone to play with that she played with or the kid who didn't have anyone to sit by on the bus that she sat by. She is nice like that. She is also nice to her brother and sister...when Justin and I have been thinking about what she is really in to (thinking of Christmas) we've had a hard time because she usually will just play with whatever Stockton or Brynn plays with. Or they make up a lot of pretend-type games. Brynn absolutely loves Molly and will often choose her over myself or Justin. She always has time for Brynn, and Brynn knows it. She reads books and plays with her quite often. It's a huge help. She is very patient and has been the one who has taught
Stockton a fair share of what he knows as far and letters and numbers. She has made lots of friends and it is common for three or four different kids to come to our house after school each day and ask if Molly can play...boys and girls alike. She is developing a lot of likes; she has been over princesses for quite some time. Now I love that her interests are varied and she's not fixated on one thing: she likes to watch Spiderman and My Little Pony. She loves American Girl Doll anything. She loves Barbie movies as well as The Parent Trap and Matilda and The Little Princess and Scooby Doo. She loves to read and to be read to. We finished reading Matilda a little while ago and she loves moving on to other books. She's liked the Rainbow Magic Fairy books and is begging me to read Harry Potter to her. (I told her she wasn't old enough but I might surprise her over Christmas break and start reading it to her. She's not easily scared so Justin thinks she'll do fine with the first book.) I had picked up a handful of chapter books last week and she laid them all out and couldn't decide which one to read first. She reminded me so much of myself at that very moment since I do that very thing a lot. She colors and writes all day long. It gets frustrating some days picking up paper all over the house...but I guess it's a good thing to enjoy. And I love getting her pictures and letters. They are precious. She gets frustrated if her letters and words aren't completely perfect. Justin and I really feel like we couldn't have asked for a better daughter. We love her so much!!
