I have tried to teach each of my kids piano...with no success. It was just too hard and I never had much more in my "piano tank" for my kids after teaching so many other kids. I did want one of my kids to be serious about piano and that had to be Ivy since the others were past the window of interest. I knew that I would need to find and pay for a teacher for Ivy if we were going to have any success. It is so hard here in Heber to find someone who doesn't have a forever long wait list but I came across this Presto Piano program taught by a lady here in the valley and after some research and talking to others about the program, I went ahead and signed her up. It is a one hour class once a week and she has four other kids with her. I was a little skeptical just because it's not a a traditional piano lesson...but it has been awesome. She loves her teacher, Miss Kim, and it is an hour full of piano playing, theory, and games. Ivy has loved it and is doing so well. It's a two-year program and then hopefully after that we can find a private teacher for her and she will be able to continue with piano. Her favorite song right now is called "Groovio Arpeggio" and she plays it constantly. Her siblings love it.
I mentioned Ivy's clogging class in December, when she had her recital. She continues to really enjoy clogging and tells us that she thinks she's going to "stick with clogging". I hope so! This is so much better of a fit for her than cheer, which is what she had her heart set on for so long.
Ivy is my avid reader. She is proud when she claims she is a reader like me...and so am I! I hope she finds joy from books for her whole life, because I always have. She really loves the Whatever After books right now and gets one every week from the school library. She usually finishes them within a couple of days and then has to wait until the next library day to get the next one. She continues to listen to audiobooks daily.
Ivy has the most beautiful hair. She likes it long and so do I. But...it is awful to comb her hair. She has the most sensitive head and it's a battle nearly every day. She prefers Justin to brush it out but more often has to settle for me-who is very gentle, I will add, but she gripes about it anyway, just because it's me. But we persevere anyway. She also insists that she is too old for any braids...or any styling in general. It's usually just brushed down or curled if it is freshly washed.
Ivy still prefers taking a bath over a shower.
Just like her brother, Ivy has chocolate milk every morning. Unlike her brother, she never drinks regular "white" milk. She loves spaghetti the most but all forms of pasta goes over very well with her. She's not too picky these days and mostly eats whatever is for dinner.
Ivy takes a home lunch to school every day. The only school lunch she will eat is orange chicken but we rarely even look at the school menu so it's just home lunch for her. I don't mind packing her lunch, since it's just her. She also still loves when I go to the school to eat lunch with her and I do that a couple of times each week (she eats, I hear about her day and talk to her friends). She lights up when she sees me waiting by the cafeteria so why wouldn't I do that while I still can?!?
I still read to Ivy at night, as long as she is ready and in bed by 9:00. We are so close to finishing Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and I think she is wanting to go straight into the next book when we are finished. She sleeps with her giant unicorn (Rainbow), the flower pillow she got for her birthday, a stuffed owl she got from a Harry Potter birthday party that she named "Elaine", with her squishmallow as her pillow. She still gives me her routine of kisses every night.
Ivy is my kid who enjoys Math. All the other kids think she is crazy, but she really does like doing Math. We will see if this sticks...but maybe, I always liked my Math classes in school.
Like all the girls in this house, she is a Swiftie. We {heart} T.S.
Ivy is short for her age. She is 4 feet on the dot which puts her in the 2nd percentile of kids her same age.
