Ivy turned 8 on Thursday, January 19th, 2023. We can't believe our caboose is 8! She got whatever she wanted that day, starting with her breakfast of German Pancakes, chocolate milk, and blueberries.
She wanted to stay home from school so I guess she didn't get everything she wanted. She would have been bored without Brynn home anyway. She had her outfit picked out ahead of time and also knew exactly how she wanted her hair. Unfortunately, her birthday is not weather-friendly and it was freezing so I made her pack an actual coat to wear outside at recess. She took mini cupcakes to share with her classmates.
I took lunch to her at school. This is something that I do more and more. Once she figured out that I can come and sit with her in the cafeteria, she wants me to come every day. I usually make it a couple times a week. I told her I would bring her whatever she wanted and she had a hard time deciding. After changing her mind a few times, she finally settled on caesar salad, apples with nutella, and a side I can't remember. She also wanted a grape juice box.
She went to recess and finished her day of school while I went home and got her cake request all ready. She wanted a two-tier vanilla cake with blue frosting. I also was instructed to make pink, purple, and more blue frosting and have it ready for her to decorate her own cake when she got home. She happily frosted and sprinkled the afternoon away. Brynn was my photographer since I was doing piano lessons. She had leftover mini cupcakes from school so I told her to put them around the outside of the cake. We told her the finished product looked like a galaxy cake.
She went to gymnastics that night while I got her dinner ready. She made it super easy on me and requested Panda Express orange chicken and chow mein. All I had to do was go pick up an order I had placed online earlier in the day. Done and done!
We had just under an hour from when she got home from gymnastics until Brynn had to leave for cheer. Brynn wanted to be involved in all aspects of Ivy's birthday so we rushed through dinner, presents, and cake. Presents were after dinner and I had made the scavenger hunt earlier in the day so it was all ready. She got her three requested treats (watermelon gum, rainbow tic tacs, and cotton candy), a beanie, a new backpack for school, and a instax camera. (Shhh, don't tell her but Justin was given the camera at seminar last September and we had been saving it for Ivy's birthday ever since. She maybe is a little young for it, but it was free and easy. And she was happy and excited for it.)
We sang to Ivy and ate her cake and chocolate ice cream. I found a #8 sparkler candle that was super fun. Then some people danced on the counter to the Beatles' Happy Birthday song. Brynn went to cheer. Ivy got in the tub and went to bed.
Two days later, on Saturday, we were in Sandy for a cheer tournament so we were able to celebrate with Gene and April. They gave her her eight-year-old doll, some diamond painting stickers, a mini backpack, and a light-up tracing pad. April had salted caramel rice krispies and stuck a candle in one so we could sing to her.
We celebrated with the Moyes grandparents the following Saturday in between another cheer competition while we had a couple of hours to wait for awards. We met my parents at Blaze Pizza, ate, talked, and Ivy opened presents. She got a bulletin board for her room and a cheer outfit. She had been shopping with my mom a couple weeks before (when we were in Ogden for a, you guessed it, cheer comp) and was super excited to get the clothes she picked out: a sweatshirt, leggings, jacket, and dress. She put the cheer outfit on as soon as we got home and did stunts with Brynn. That was the end of her birthday celebrations but we were able celebrate her a few weeks later when she was baptized.
