all about Stockton

I'll get the most obvious thing out of the way: baseball, baseball, baseball.  That pretty much sums up this kids life.  He eats, sleeps, breathes baseball.  He follows the major leagues very closely.  He watches highlights and a game whenever he has a chance (no cable for us so not at home).  He loves playing and plays baseball every single day.  With a team or cousins if he's lucky, on his own if we are just at home.  He has all sorts of baseball gear that he can use.

Stockton prefers to have his hair long.  It is very thick and it's hard for Justin to cut it the way Stockton likes it.  Last time (early March) Justin got frustrated and just shaved it really short.  Stockton was so, so upset but it's grown back by now so it's a distant bad memory.  I don't really know how to handle his hair but, since he wears a hat virtually every waking minute, I don't usually have to do anything about it.  He combs it for church and, while not perfect, it's good enough.

Summer is a dream for Stockton.  He really does not like school and each morning he let his dislike for it show.  Summer's going by a little too fast for him (and me!), we'll be back before we know it.  He did have classes he enjoyed like percussion and stage crew and graphic design and the shop class but overall, he's not a fan.  He has a more laid-back approach to grades and doesn't expect perfection and that has been harder for be to step back and let it be.  I did make a point to go over grades each night with him to help him stay on top of assignments that were due.  I secretly think he enjoyed our time together at night and, besides a few nights of frustration, I can admit that I did too.  Can't believe he is going into his last year before high school.

Stockton drinks a lot of milk.  In the summer, it's multiple glasses each day.  It's his beverage of choice (besides soda, maybe, but I don't keep that in the house).  Usually just regular 2% but chocolate milk is his favorite.

He is still loving deacons quorum and they have a rock star of a group.  Seriously, that age group of boys are so good.  They have varying interests but they are extremely unified as a quorum.  It helps that he has had some awesome leaders.  In his year and a half in the quorum, he is on his 4th bishopric leader (Brothers Starks, Goodrich, Mitchell, and Roney).  Todd Andersen has been the advisor for years and, along with John Webb, they have a lot of fun together and have created such a great bond.  I'm so grateful.

Stockton hates getting his picture taken.  He rolls his eyes at me every single time I ask for one.  He is still mostly obliging though, and I'll take it along with his teenage annoyance.

Stockton has had a permanent retainer for years.  I think we are waiting for him to lose a few more baby teeth before we proceed with braces.  He doesn't really have an opinion about braces, probably because he's always known he was going to get them.

Stockton is not a big fan of reading.  He reads Hazardous Tales, Sports Illustrated for kids (magazines and books I get from the library), and Calvin and Hobbes.  Beyond that he doesn't have much interest.  I've tried to get him on audiobooks and his interest is lukewarm at best.  He does like podcasts but it's hard finding podcasts that are interesting for him as well as age appropriate.

Baseball is his love but he does enjoy building things, doing stop motion videos, and making movies with Kelton.

I'm pretty sure Stockton no longer owns a pair of jeans that fit him.  In the summer he is all about golf shorts and in the winter it is joggers only.  He is a T-shirt kind of guy, as well.

Stockton has a sweet relationship with Ivy.  He always makes a point to go in her room after she's tucked in and do something silly.  It's really sweet.

Stockton loves hats and has so many.  He has probably crossed the line and it is a collection now.  It doesn't matter how many he already has, he is always wanting another one.  He will get a hat and wear that one exclusively for a while until he gets the next new one.  I think he should rotate through them but that's just not how he does things.

Here are Stockton stats from his physical: 4 ft 11 in (22%), 82.2 lbs (-1.1%)

  1. I'll have to try the Sports Illustrated for Henry. He's not much of a reader either. He likes Calvin and Hobbes too so I got him others--Pickles, Family Circus, Foxtrot, Baby Blues.

Brynn @ 18 months

Yes, you read that right.  Brynn is 18 months old!!  She is so fun to have around the house and I haven't done a post devoted just to her for a while, so I thought it was about time. -She loves books!  She was never really that interested until sometime in the past couple months and now she can't get enough.  Sacrament meeting went from impossible to we can make it through...as long as I pack enough books for her.  This is how I often find her at night or during nap time. -She also loves blankets and towels, although she is not particular about which blanket.  She just wants something soft. She wants to walk around all over with them wrapped around her...they don't stay very well and she gets frustrated.  For that reason, I try to keep her blankets out of sight during the day. They come out when it's time to sleep. -Like my other kids, she loves her warm milk!  Actually, she'll drink it cold too. -She is a quiet one, always has ...

Stockton's 16th birthday

Stockton turned 16 on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. We've always told him he has the best day to have a birthday but I don't think he was convinced this year. He was anxious to turn 16 and get his license...it really felt like it took forever to get here. I told Justin that Stockton had to wait so much longer than Molly to get his license and he said, "actually, it took the exact same amount of time", which is factually true, it just felt a lot longer with Molly getting her license September of her sophomore year and Stockton not getting his until after sophomore year, before junior year. But, it did eventually arrive and we did our best to celebrate. We did the family celebration the Sunday before, since it was Girl's Camp that week and Justin, Molly, and Brynn would all be gone on his actual birthday. We had his requested dinner, meatballs, and he opened his presents. He got his favorite treats (nerd clusters, sour patch watermelon, and cow tails) and a new bat th...

all about Stockton

Stockton has loved having his license. He enjoys his independence immensely and does not take it for granted, probably because he had to wait for so long. He takes care of his truck, inside and out. He is always willing to run errands for me or take/pick up his sisters when I need him to. He tries to take back roads whenever he can-good thing you can get most anywhere in Heber on back roads.   This summer his love for cars has really amped up. He said he's always loved cars but he has just been noticing and talking about them more and more. He will point out a "cool car" whenever we are in the car and has a lot of knowledge about all the different features of the different cars. He has a dream car (can't remember which one) but also knows which color he would get in each of the different kinds of sports cars. He has slowly been buying sports car Lego sets with his birthday money, putting them together, and displaying them in his room. It's fun to see how excited h...
