Girls trip to Waco

Several months ago the girls in my family were sitting around and commenting on how much fun it would be to go to Waco together on a girl's trip.  I honestly don't remember whose idea it was or how it came to be...but Ali followed up and made it happen.  She found our flights, a rental car, and a house for a few nights and then we split the cost between the 5 of us.  We met at the airport on a Thursday afternoon and flew to Dallas where we picked up our rental car and drove the couple hours further to Waco.  We were excited for our few days of freedom!

Ali is the only one of us who had been to Waco before and she is our planner and organizer, so she kind of gave us a loose itinerary to follow.  We were all okay to do whatever she told us was best!  Our first thing on Friday morning was to go eat at Magnolia Table.  We had heard that the wait to get in could be hours and hours...we waited about 45 minutes so not bad at all.  And it was totally worth it.  It was so cute inside and all the food was delicious! We had pancakes, pumpkin French Toast, avocado toast, eggs benedict, bacon, etc-between the 5 of us and everything was so good.  A perfect way to start the day.

After breakfast we went on a tour of Waco.  It took us all over the town and we saw so many things we wouldn't have seen otherwise.  Some of Chip and Jo's houses that they had redone on the show.  Harp Design Co, the river that runs through the city, some of Baylor University campus, Heritage Creamery ice cream.  Honestly, the city itself leaves a lot to be desired.  There were some areas that were really run down and yucky and other places that were nicer.  It was also a bigger city than I thought.  There were not any really huge houses that you see in Utah and I liked that.

We walked around Spice Village (souvenirs, etc.) and then got some pizza for dinner.  It wasn't super late so we went to get our nails done.  They all looked so good-too bad it was November and I never once wore sandals after that night.  We stopped at Walgreens for treats and snacks and other essentials (can't remember what we initially went in there for) and then went back to the house to watch a chick flick.  We tried to find a Hallmark to watch but the TV schedule didn't line up and so we watched something on Netflix.  It was horrible and we laughed our way through the whole thing and joked about the budget for this show compared to the budget for Hallmark.

The next day was purely devoted to all things Magnolia.  We didn't go to the silos the day before because Saturday was when we wanted to see it all.  In my mind, I thought the silos would be out a little, away from the city but it's right there in the midst of everything else.  But it feels like a totally different world!  It's clean and neat and cute and it was a really fun place to be.

We stood in line at the bakery for breakfast.  Biscuits with bacon, cheese, and green onions, cinnamon rolls...all super yummy again.

We spent the next several hours exploring Magnolia.  The main shop with home decor, the garden shop, and several boutique stores as well.  None of us were big spenders/buyers-no one had checked a bag so we had to be careful with space.  The browsing was just as fun though!

We got some lunch at Torchys Tacos in Waco.  Delicious, authentic street tacos that Ali had recommended and did not disappoint.  Then we went to explore The Little Shop on Bosque (Jo's first store that she opened) where we did buy more things...everything here was marked down 60%!  We drove out to see Chip and Jo's farm (barely visible from the road) and through some more neighborhoods. Also a quick stop at the Dr. Pepper store.

We ended our day where we started...at the bakery.  We wanted to get a sampling of the cupcakes to share.  It had been such a fun day.  We were tired and opted to grab dinner at Panera to take back to the house.  We found a real Hallmark to watch before going to bed.  It was much better than the one the night before.

Our flight was the next morning so we got up, got ready, and headed to the airport (all in our matching Magnolia sweatshirts).  We landed in Salt Lake that afternoon and parted ways-me to Heber and the rest to Plain City.  It was just the break I needed and I loved spending the weekend with the girls.  Hopefully we can do more of these types of weekends!

Justin was in charge of getting the kids off to school Friday morning.  He is very capable of doing this but it's not something he needs to do very often.  I had told him to wash the girls hair the night before and then brush it straight and that would be great.  He went a little further and did his best job of waving it.  I think the girls probably loved that.  They look adorable.

He got everyone off to school and then he and Stockton left for a baseball tournament in St. George.  Stockton wasn't going to be playing because of his foot but he still wanted to go cheer on his team.  Justin debated about going or not but we still had the VRBO that I had reserved and it was too late to get any refund on that...so they went and had a good boys weekend.

April drove up Friday afternoon and got all the girls and kept them at her house for the rest of Friday, all of Saturday, and half of Sunday until I got home.  They had a quiet weekend with Gene, April, and Brett and I am always grateful when they get one-on-one grandparent time (no other cousins).

  1. Oh my goodness how fun! I think going anywhere with just the girls would be a blast but especially Magnolia.

Brynn @ 18 months

Yes, you read that right.  Brynn is 18 months old!!  She is so fun to have around the house and I haven't done a post devoted just to her for a while, so I thought it was about time. -She loves books!  She was never really that interested until sometime in the past couple months and now she can't get enough.  Sacrament meeting went from impossible to we can make it through...as long as I pack enough books for her.  This is how I often find her at night or during nap time. -She also loves blankets and towels, although she is not particular about which blanket.  She just wants something soft. She wants to walk around all over with them wrapped around her...they don't stay very well and she gets frustrated.  For that reason, I try to keep her blankets out of sight during the day. They come out when it's time to sleep. -Like my other kids, she loves her warm milk!  Actually, she'll drink it cold too. -She is a quiet one, always has ...

Stockton's 16th birthday

Stockton turned 16 on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. We've always told him he has the best day to have a birthday but I don't think he was convinced this year. He was anxious to turn 16 and get his license...it really felt like it took forever to get here. I told Justin that Stockton had to wait so much longer than Molly to get his license and he said, "actually, it took the exact same amount of time", which is factually true, it just felt a lot longer with Molly getting her license September of her sophomore year and Stockton not getting his until after sophomore year, before junior year. But, it did eventually arrive and we did our best to celebrate. We did the family celebration the Sunday before, since it was Girl's Camp that week and Justin, Molly, and Brynn would all be gone on his actual birthday. We had his requested dinner, meatballs, and he opened his presents. He got his favorite treats (nerd clusters, sour patch watermelon, and cow tails) and a new bat th...

all about Stockton

Stockton has loved having his license. He enjoys his independence immensely and does not take it for granted, probably because he had to wait for so long. He takes care of his truck, inside and out. He is always willing to run errands for me or take/pick up his sisters when I need him to. He tries to take back roads whenever he can-good thing you can get most anywhere in Heber on back roads.   This summer his love for cars has really amped up. He said he's always loved cars but he has just been noticing and talking about them more and more. He will point out a "cool car" whenever we are in the car and has a lot of knowledge about all the different features of the different cars. He has a dream car (can't remember which one) but also knows which color he would get in each of the different kinds of sports cars. He has slowly been buying sports car Lego sets with his birthday money, putting them together, and displaying them in his room. It's fun to see how excited h...
