September

September 1st and 2nd harvest.  Honestly I waited a little late to harvest the corn but the kids loved it!  It was really sweet so I'm definitely doing corn again next year.  I'll have to pick the ears sooner.

Brynn and Ivy always insist on sitting right next to me for scriptures but there was one night that they didn't and I got to sit by Molly and Stockton.  Brynn sat by Justin.  This didn't last too long and pretty soon Ivy had squeezed herself between me and Molly.

Brynn had to stay home a couple of days because she had a cold.  She helped me harvest the corn.  She also got to go to Swiss Days with me.  I wasn't about to miss that so we made it work.  She liked walking around and looking at the booths with me, Ali, and my mom, but she was tired by the time we finally made it back to the car.  She couldn't believe how may people were there!

Our truck was being worked on in our garage by a traveling mechanic who Justin knows.  It was an ouchie repair, money-wise, but should be good for a while still.  The repairman put so much work into it that week and even came over on Saturday so he could finish.  He brought his son, Xander (who my kids had never met), and our kids took him under their wing and made him feel quite comfortable.  They entertained each other for hours that day.  This is when they were making elephant toothpaste.

Justin got tickets through work for an RSL game.  He was working that Saturday so I got to take Molly.  Anyone who knows me knows that I love watching soccer of any kind but an RSL game is a special treat, especially with Molly who loves soccer like me.  Aside from getting beer spilled on us (luckily at our feet and we were able to move), we enjoyed our night and RSL won.

This was a fun Kiwi Co that Ivy got.  There was a mirror in the top of the binoculars and you had to put together the puzzle looking through the mirror.  It was harder than it looks!  We all gave it a try.
Brynn and Ivy are not afraid to hold our chickens!  They started giving us eggs this month as well.  So many we had hard time keeping up!
Justin also got tickets through work for the Sheepdog Festival at Soldier Hollow.  They hold it every Labor Day but we've never been.  We had heard that it was really cool so we drove up to check it out Monday morning.  I guess it's pretty neat but it wasn't really for us.  The kids got bored quickly.  You sit in the stands and watch the border collies and Australian shepherds bring a herd of sheep down the mountain.  That is impressive but you only need to watch so many before you don't need to watch anymore.  We also watched a sheep shearing demonstration (which I actually thought was interesting) and a bird show..but we only stayed for that one because we were in the back and couldn't get out.  The guy actually lost one of his birds at the end...it never came back when he would blow his whistle.  We left after that and went and got lunch at some food trucks before going home and doing some real labor.

I had scheduled carpet cleaning so Justin and I spent a night getting all the furniture out of the living room that we could.  We kind of clear everything out and it's a big job.  I wonder if everyone does that or just us.  Anyway, Justin found a chocolate Easter egg that the kids never found when he was moving the small couch and we laughed about that!

Justin was conducting at a couple of baptisms one Saturday morning.  He took Ivy with him (I was with Molly at her birthday getaway weekend).  She was able to see Verity Phelps get baptized-they are good friends and we probably would have gone regardless.  She also went to Verity's birthday party the night before.

I know I've mentioned a few times that our yard is one of our favorite places on a Sunday evening.  That second Sunday in September was no exception.  Everyone was out doing something or other-baseball, soccer, trampoline, etc.  Ivy was playing on her own with a soccer ball when she tripped over it and landed on her right arm.  She started crying immediately and favoring her elbow.  I was pretty certain from the beginning that she had done something to it.  Justin didn't wait too long to take her in to the emergency room where they did x-rays and determined that she had probably fractured it.  They put her in a soft cast with instructions to take her to Primary Children's in a week for more x-rays and a cast, if necessary.  We had to bribe her to get here but, once there, she was very cheerful, charming all the nurses and trying her best to speak in the little bit of Spanish she has picked up from friends.
I kept her home the next day.  She did puzzles.  She wanted a special lunch.  Her wish was my command that day.

We did have to bribe Ivy to go to the emergency room Sunday night. She did not want to go.  I told her if she would go that I would get her whatever she wanted and she wanted a Belle dress.  So she got it!
Justin's new branch finally opened on the 15th.  Molly's birthday.  It was a stressful few weeks leading up to the opening and a stressful month following as they were ironing out all the kinks.  But the building itself it awesome!  So beautiful and open and big.  Such a nice change from the tiny branch in the grocery store where he has been for almost 12 years.  Justin has waited a long time for this day.  He has done such an amazing job in the Heber market, making loan numbers and new account numbers get high enough to justify a brick and mortar branch.  He will shrug it off and be modest but I know this building is a result of a lot of his hard work and dedication.

Molly loves playing soccer any chance she can get.  I love watching her.
One week after Ivy's accident, I drove her down to Primary's Children's for more x-rays.  The doctor said she had "injured" it in three places.  I don't know what that means-I think I heard three different fracture locations-and I saw nothing on the x-rays but trusted his judgment when he told us she would need a cast.  She chose pink this time and was a champ the entire time.  We were home well before lunch that day but I kept her home with me anyway.
Ivy adjusted quickly and well.  Her first and biggest concern was that she wouldn't be able to write since it was her "writing arm" but she figured that one out in no time.  It was easy to forget it was there.  She had it on for three weeks.

See how well she adjusted.  She is constantly writing, writing, writing and she got right back to it that night.  But, let me say, bathtime is a pain when having to work around a cast.  I hate it the most.  She only wore leggings while she had her cast on because she couldn't do any buttons.  That was not as big of a deal.

I usually leave the kids home when I am taking other kids to activities.  Occasionally Ivy has to come with me or she just wants to come with me.  She was tired this aftenroon and zonked out in the car.  This rarely happens anymore.  It perked her right up and she was making smiley faces with her dinner that night (indian curry for eyes, cucumber for nose, strawberries for mouth).  She thought she was so clever!  And you can see that she wasted no time getting signatures on her cast.

Quilting night for YW's!  This was actually combined with Relief Society since we had so many to get done.  We have one sister in our ward who is an amazing quilter.  We have another sister who has been an amazing quilter but is getting too old to be able to do it anymore.  Anyway, quilter #2 had so much extra fabric stashed away so quilter #1 went and got it and spent her summer making 70+ quilt tops!  Then the ward got involved and tied all the quilts before they were delivered to hospitals and shelters.  Gosh, I sure love our ward!

Fun run at Daniels Canyon Elementary.  Brynn had cheer but Ivy was super excited to go.  They ran one lap.  We bought no raffle tickets and ate dinner at home rather than at the food trucks they had set up.  We are super lame, I know.  Ivy loved seeing her teacher and friends though and cried when I made her leave.

Ivy played soccer again this fall.  I don't think soccer is going to be Ivy's thing.  This is relieving because I do not want to go through the ups and downs that we've dealt with with Molly for so many years.  Good thing Ivy is young and doesn't know it isn't her thing because she loved every minute.  She fell down a lot and rarely kicked the ball but was happy to run alongside her teammates and kick the ball every once in a while.  To be fair, these were 1st and 2nd grade girls and I'm pretty sure Ivy was the only 1st grader on the team.

Ugh, more kittens.  We have never had a problem getting rid of our kittens but we still had kittens from the last litter in the spring.  They are adorable and so fun but we did not need 9 cats!  We posted them on KSL and got rid of them (and the older ones!) within a couple of weeks.  We named them Houdini (it kept getting out of the cat house and would mewl until someone put him back), Pumpkin, Mittens, and Daisy.  I'm sure they have different names now.
these girls never tire of kittens
Stockton and Justin spent a weekend in Logan for a baseball tournament.  Lucky them-Logan is the best.  They took one of the boys, William Brereton, with them since his parents were busy with packing up their house for a move.  The girls and I stayed home, for soccer and a couple other things.  They had a great weekend!  The boys won all of their games and only lost in the championship game.  I was bummed I didn't get to see any of the games but enjoyed hearing all the highlights when they got home.

The last weekend of September was homecoming at the high school.  The week was full of fun activities, ending with the dance.  Molly's not old enough to go to the dance, obviously, but her group of friends got together and did a dance activity.  They went to Provo Beach for their day activity then came home and got all dolled up for the evening activity.  That night they met at Sloane Ellingford's house for dinner (Panda Express but fancy decor), did a dance in their backyard, and I think watched a movie. No one was paired into couples and Molly said that she danced with all the boys and it wasn't awkward in the least.  The pictures are adorable and it looks like it was such a fun night with friends!
I can't name all the girls.  Molly is 4th in from the left.

It feels good to be back helping in the classroom.  I try to make it to Ivy's once a week or every other week.  I help read with the kids and do any cutting or whatever her teacher is needing.  Sometimes I get to observe the class and on this day, I got to see Ivy talk about one of her journal entries.

Brynn @ 18 months

Yes, you read that right.  Brynn is 18 months old!!  She is so fun to have around the house and I haven't done a post devoted just to her for a while, so I thought it was about time. -She loves books!  She was never really that interested until sometime in the past couple months and now she can't get enough.  Sacrament meeting went from impossible to we can make it through...as long as I pack enough books for her.  This is how I often find her at night or during nap time. -She also loves blankets and towels, although she is not particular about which blanket.  She just wants something soft. She wants to walk around all over with them wrapped around her...they don't stay very well and she gets frustrated.  For that reason, I try to keep her blankets out of sight during the day. They come out when it's time to sleep. -Like my other kids, she loves her warm milk!  Actually, she'll drink it cold too. -She is a quiet one, always has ...

Stockton's 16th birthday

Stockton turned 16 on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. We've always told him he has the best day to have a birthday but I don't think he was convinced this year. He was anxious to turn 16 and get his license...it really felt like it took forever to get here. I told Justin that Stockton had to wait so much longer than Molly to get his license and he said, "actually, it took the exact same amount of time", which is factually true, it just felt a lot longer with Molly getting her license September of her sophomore year and Stockton not getting his until after sophomore year, before junior year. But, it did eventually arrive and we did our best to celebrate. We did the family celebration the Sunday before, since it was Girl's Camp that week and Justin, Molly, and Brynn would all be gone on his actual birthday. We had his requested dinner, meatballs, and he opened his presents. He got his favorite treats (nerd clusters, sour patch watermelon, and cow tails) and a new bat th...

all about Stockton

Stockton has loved having his license. He enjoys his independence immensely and does not take it for granted, probably because he had to wait for so long. He takes care of his truck, inside and out. He is always willing to run errands for me or take/pick up his sisters when I need him to. He tries to take back roads whenever he can-good thing you can get most anywhere in Heber on back roads.   This summer his love for cars has really amped up. He said he's always loved cars but he has just been noticing and talking about them more and more. He will point out a "cool car" whenever we are in the car and has a lot of knowledge about all the different features of the different cars. He has a dream car (can't remember which one) but also knows which color he would get in each of the different kinds of sports cars. He has slowly been buying sports car Lego sets with his birthday money, putting them together, and displaying them in his room. It's fun to see how excited h...
