When looking at the summer calendar in early June, we realized that we had better do our camping trip sooner rather than later to make sure we were able to fit it in. We left on the Friday morning after the girls' swimming lessons. We had the trailer all packed up before so we were ready to pull out as soon as we got home. It was so nice with the trailer-we could pack whatever we wanted and not have to worry about fitting everything in the back of the truck. We decided to take our chances and not book a campsite-just go and see what was available. We started to get worried when we went to Smith and Morehouse (where we camped last year) and nothing was available. We went to Kamas and drove up Mirror Lake Highway until we found a spot up there. We found one fairly quickly at, I think, Yellow Pine Campground. We got the trailer and camp all set up then went out exploring. We found a pretty look-out point before ending up at Lost Lake for some fishing. We fished (mostly Justin), the kids made a Bigfoot movie, and we followed the trail around the lake. These mountain lakes are breathtakingly beautiful and always leave me a little in awe.

this was a look-out spot on our way to the lake

yup, this was a snag, which is why he is facing away from the lake

Stockton called this white foamy stuff "Indian soap" and couldn't believe I had never heard of it.

We stayed at the lake for several hours until it was time to go back to camp. Back at camp, Molly played the ukulele, the boys went on a bike ride, we played board games in the trailer, played spikeball, and the girls gave Justin a foot rub. We had dinner, roasted marshmallows, and went to bed. We were all cozy and warm in the trailer.

After breakfast the next morning, we got dressed with swimsuits under our clothes for a "water day." It wasn't warm enough for me but we were there so it was happening. Our first stop was Provo River Falls, which has turned into a summer staple for us. This trip, however, my family got much more adventurous. At least Justin and the girls did. They went down to the water in a few places and crossed to the other side. Stockton and I stayed put and watched their antics.

When we were done there, we drove up Mirror Lake Highway until we found a lake we hadn't been to. The kids wanted one that was a little smaller so they could get out the paddleboard and kayak and paddle around the entire lake. We ended up at Lily Lake. It was a bit marshy so not my favorite of all the lakes we've been to up there but still beautiful. As we were up in the high mountains, it never got warm enough for my liking but it was a good day. We had packed a lunch and treats, fished from the shore, and, of course, paddled around the entire lake. Molly made flower crowns. On the west end of the lake was where all the lilies were-growing from the lake bottom to rest on the top of the water.

not a bad way to spend an afternoon

Justin wanted to fish on a little stream he had seen and so he dropped us off at camp and went back out. He was successful and caught nine fish! We occupied our time by playing more games, getting high scores on the pogo stick, and some archery. We drove down to Kamas for dinner and supplies. The kids whittled away all night around the campfire before going to bed.

We had originally planned on going home Saturday night but decided to stay until Sunday morning. We hadn't gone back to church yet so didn't need to be home for 9:00 church. We figured it was so much work to load up, unload, set up camp all for just one night-so we stayed Saturday night and went home Sunday morning. Since I hadn't packed food for Saturday night dinner, we drove down to Kamas for dinner and picked up stuff for a quick breakfast. We ate outside with the tailgate down. That Sunday was Father's Day. I felt bad not making Justin a big, yummy breakfast but he took it all in stride and was great at getting us all loaded up and back home. Such a fun family weekend spent in our beautiful mountains!

It took us a little while to get unloaded and everyone showered before we could sit down and give Justin his gifts. I was super excited about this part because I had done a good job this year. The homemade gifts first. Brynn sewed him a "sign" back when she was on a sewing kick. She had sewn one piece of fabric on top of another and wrote something on it. She had also sewn a bag for Ivy to give to him. Can't beat those homemade gifts that are straight from the heart.
My gift has a bit of a story to lead up to it...a few years ago we were trying to think of a good name to give Justin's shop and Molly came up with "Dad's Dust Depot." We thought this was an excellent name and, ever since, I have been wanting to have a sign made for the outside of it-I just didn't know where to look for something like that. Fast forward a few years to one Saturday morning when I was mindlessly browsing Instagram and stumbled across a metal sign company right here in Heber. I reached out to them right away about having them make a sign. I didn't have a design or anything, I just knew it had to say "Dad's Dust Depot." They made a few designs on their computer, had me choose the one I liked best, had it made, and all I had to do was go pick it up and find a good hiding spot for the next few weeks until Father's Day. So, yes, I was excited for him to see it. He was very surprised, and very pleased. It's hanging on the door to his shop and I love it!
