finishing up 2019

Justin helped Ivy with her Legos when she woke up the day after Christmas.  A new pair of Christmas pajamas (hand-me-down) but still going strong on Christmas Eve hair since I didn't do anything with it the day before.
Stockton and Brynn went outside to try out their new snowshoes.  They didn't last too long but we did get out later that week for longer.
Ivy's hair sort of got tamed later that day when Molly combed it to look like hers.
The kids were needing to get out and I wanted to do something together before Justin had to go back to work the next day so we took the kids to see the lights at Jordanelle.  Maybe slightly less magical after Santa has visited but still exciting.  The Festival of Lights is still our favorite drive-through light display (lots of good memories going there) but we just might do this one again.  We also found the house in Heber that has the light display that coordinates with music and watched that for a bit before heading home.
We had never found a good time to do our Moyes girls night in November or December so we decided to do it the Friday after Christmas.  Brynn was finally old enough to go so I took Molly and Brynn to Plain City and left Justin behind with Stockton and Ivy.  We had dinner, played games, painted nails, and my sisters and I (plus Erin) tried to re-enact one of our childhood games-making up dances to Kylie Minogues "Locomotion."  The girls might have thought their moms were crazy but they mostly thought we were super cool.  Tessa had been gifted a disco ball for Christmas so we kept that going and had a pretty awesome dance party.  For sleeping, everyone just finds a place wherever they want.  I got smart this year and decided to sleep on Seth's bed instead of the couch or an air mattress.  I love all of these girls beyond words!!

For my mom's Christmas gift, we gave her a girls temple and lunch date so we did that the following morning.  I had never been to the Ogden Temple for a session since its open house so that was neat to see.  And being in the temple with my sisters and mom was awesome and probably something we will do every year for Christmas-my mom would rather have that more than anything.  We went to lunch at Kneaders and then I got the girls and we headed home.  Brynn was tired after her late night of partying and slept for a good chunk of the drive.

The Sunday following Christmas is when the kids wear their new clothes from Grandma.  This was our last week at 12:00 church and Ivy's last week as a Sunbeam.
Stockton will only wear white shirts so he got pants and a new tie.  If you can't tell, his tie is a Jazz tie.
I do like to keep the kids somewhat busy over the break-meaning something small every day to look forward to-but it didn't seem like we had as many days this year.  On Monday, Molly worked her last shift as an elf so I took the other kids to the pool while she was doing that.  Stockton initially wasn't too excited to go but had fun once we got there.  He is a kid that will play with whoever is available since he's not great at entertaining himself.  They played for a couple of hours while I watched and then we headed home.

New Years Eve.  Molly was invited to a party and decided she'd rather stay with us.  That made me pretty happy!  (Although it was a girl she doesn't know that well and she was unsure who would be there.  She probably would have left us had the right person invited her.  Still, I'll take it.)  As per tradition, I took the kids to the store and had them pick out their dinner item.  Our menu this year was: chips + queso (Justin), coconut shrimp (me), sushi (Molly), chips + dip (Stockton-like regular potato chips and french onion dip), french toast sticks (Brynn), and spaghetti (Ivy).  I don't usually go to a lot of trouble to make something but all Ivy wanted was spaghetti so I caved for her.  And then it was worth it because she ate at least three helpings that night and several more over the next few days until it was gone.  The kids also requested Shirley Temple drinks-the third year in a row-so I'd call that a tradition!
I put the kids' names in two different jars-a jar for games and a jar for movies.  Whoever had their name drawn got to pick the game/movie.  We played Life (Brynn was surprisingly adept at being the banker and beat me handily), Enchanted Forest, Lego Harry Potter, and One Night Ultimate Werewolf (a Christmas gift from Brett that is better with a bigger crowd).  We watched Cars, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and a couple episodes of The Mandalorian.  Brynn didn't get to pick a movie so she got to the next time we had a movie night.  We rang in the New Year at midnight-all kids were still awake!

Brynn @ 18 months

Yes, you read that right.  Brynn is 18 months old!!  She is so fun to have around the house and I haven't done a post devoted just to her for a while, so I thought it was about time. -She loves books!  She was never really that interested until sometime in the past couple months and now she can't get enough.  Sacrament meeting went from impossible to we can make it through...as long as I pack enough books for her.  This is how I often find her at night or during nap time. -She also loves blankets and towels, although she is not particular about which blanket.  She just wants something soft. She wants to walk around all over with them wrapped around her...they don't stay very well and she gets frustrated.  For that reason, I try to keep her blankets out of sight during the day. They come out when it's time to sleep. -Like my other kids, she loves her warm milk!  Actually, she'll drink it cold too. -She is a quiet one, always has ...

Stockton's 16th birthday

Stockton turned 16 on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. We've always told him he has the best day to have a birthday but I don't think he was convinced this year. He was anxious to turn 16 and get his license...it really felt like it took forever to get here. I told Justin that Stockton had to wait so much longer than Molly to get his license and he said, "actually, it took the exact same amount of time", which is factually true, it just felt a lot longer with Molly getting her license September of her sophomore year and Stockton not getting his until after sophomore year, before junior year. But, it did eventually arrive and we did our best to celebrate. We did the family celebration the Sunday before, since it was Girl's Camp that week and Justin, Molly, and Brynn would all be gone on his actual birthday. We had his requested dinner, meatballs, and he opened his presents. He got his favorite treats (nerd clusters, sour patch watermelon, and cow tails) and a new bat th...

all about Stockton

Stockton has loved having his license. He enjoys his independence immensely and does not take it for granted, probably because he had to wait for so long. He takes care of his truck, inside and out. He is always willing to run errands for me or take/pick up his sisters when I need him to. He tries to take back roads whenever he can-good thing you can get most anywhere in Heber on back roads.   This summer his love for cars has really amped up. He said he's always loved cars but he has just been noticing and talking about them more and more. He will point out a "cool car" whenever we are in the car and has a lot of knowledge about all the different features of the different cars. He has a dream car (can't remember which one) but also knows which color he would get in each of the different kinds of sports cars. He has slowly been buying sports car Lego sets with his birthday money, putting them together, and displaying them in his room. It's fun to see how excited h...
