Stockton's 10th birthday

Stockton turned 10 on Tuesday, June 25th.  He is an awesome boy and we love him so much!!  We started his birthday the day before, on Monday, at the baseball field.  I thought his season was over but the league he was in actually had a tournament at the end of regular season play so he had a game that day at 11.  Gene and April hadn't been down to see him play this spring/summer yet so I invited them to come down to watch him play, have a picnic at the park after, and celebrate his birthday at the same time.  Since Camille and her boys were in town, they were able to come watch him as well.

I didn't realize that if they won their game that morning, they would play again in the afternoon...well, they won so we were needing to stick around for the next game.  We had packed picnics and there is a nice pavilion and a fun park at the baseball fields so that's what we did in between games.  I ran over to Smith's and bought some brownies and candles so we could sing to Stockton.  He also opened presents from Gene and April.  He got a package of mini boxes of cereal, a math-Jenga game, and a coding robot.
He had a second game that afternoon.  I'm not sure what happened in which game, but some of the highs and lows from that day: Stockton turned an awesome double play when he was playing at 1st base.  He caught a throw from 2nd base to get his runner out then threw it into home where the catcher tagged out the runner going home.  He hit an awesome triple over center field head and to the fence.  He pitched in the last game but didn't have his greatest pitching game.  He was tired and hot and finally broke down in tears with a headache and was switched out and put in the outfield.  These boys work hard and are improving so much but we still have to remind ourselves that they are only 9 and 10.

After the games, we took the kids out for burgers and shakes (Stockton's request).  The two games had fouled up our plans to go celebrate a day early at the lake but we still wanted to do something.
On the morning of his actual birthday, he had Cubscout day camp at Camp Jeremiah Johnson.  He had to get up before 6 but he was happy to do that because he loves going to day camp.  He wanted egg mcmuffin sandwiches with chocolate milk for breakfast so Justin got up early to make those while I got up early to get him all ready.
He got home around 2 (I was still doing piano lessons) and had the afternoon free.  I worked on his dinner and cake and wrapped presents so that when Justin got home, we could open presents.  He got his favorite treats (sour patch kids, wint-o-green Lifesaver mints, and bubble gum suckers), a new Nintendo DS, and a mountain bike.  He outgrew his bike a while ago and that was the main thing he wanted.  The screen on his old Nintendo DS cracked when we were in Colorado-just a fluke thing and we kept meaning to replace it and never got around to it.  He normally wouldn't get that much for his birthday (the bike was more than sufficient).
He wanted a mountain bike like his sister.
It came as no surprise that he requested red meatballs for his birthday dinner because that's what he's wanted every year since I can remember.  We also had watermelon and corn on the cob.  He wanted a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting.  I remember years ago at a Relief Society activity a woman who gave some tips on decorating cakes.  I am still horrible at decorating cakes but I do remember the recipe she used was Hershey's chocolate cake so I looked that up and went with that recipe.  I filled the cake pans too full and they overflowed and then I got lazy and didn't freeze the layers before frosting them.  Needless to say, it was not my best-looking frosted cake but it was definitely one of the tastiest!
I felt bad that we didn't do anything super fun for his birthday.  It wasn't his year for a friend party and so we had planned on having family night at the lake on Monday night but that was when I thought he only had one game on Monday instead of two.  Molly had obligations on Tuesday night so we couldn't do the lake that day.  We made up for no lake with having a campfire and s'mores with one of our favorite families, the Webb's.  Kelton is one of Stockton's best friends.  The kids played night games and Stockton was happy with that.

The next day is when my parents came up.  It was a short visit since they had to be back to do their temple shift but they stayed long enough to see what he got the day before and give him his presents.  He got new clothes, a windbreaker jacket, an Atlanta Braves beach towel, and the Harry Potter Quidditch Lego set-just the thing he was wanting.

Brynn @ 18 months

Yes, you read that right.  Brynn is 18 months old!!  She is so fun to have around the house and I haven't done a post devoted just to her for a while, so I thought it was about time. -She loves books!  She was never really that interested until sometime in the past couple months and now she can't get enough.  Sacrament meeting went from impossible to we can make it through...as long as I pack enough books for her.  This is how I often find her at night or during nap time. -She also loves blankets and towels, although she is not particular about which blanket.  She just wants something soft. She wants to walk around all over with them wrapped around her...they don't stay very well and she gets frustrated.  For that reason, I try to keep her blankets out of sight during the day. They come out when it's time to sleep. -Like my other kids, she loves her warm milk!  Actually, she'll drink it cold too. -She is a quiet one, always has ...

Stockton's 16th birthday

Stockton turned 16 on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. We've always told him he has the best day to have a birthday but I don't think he was convinced this year. He was anxious to turn 16 and get his license...it really felt like it took forever to get here. I told Justin that Stockton had to wait so much longer than Molly to get his license and he said, "actually, it took the exact same amount of time", which is factually true, it just felt a lot longer with Molly getting her license September of her sophomore year and Stockton not getting his until after sophomore year, before junior year. But, it did eventually arrive and we did our best to celebrate. We did the family celebration the Sunday before, since it was Girl's Camp that week and Justin, Molly, and Brynn would all be gone on his actual birthday. We had his requested dinner, meatballs, and he opened his presents. He got his favorite treats (nerd clusters, sour patch watermelon, and cow tails) and a new bat th...

all about Stockton

Stockton has loved having his license. He enjoys his independence immensely and does not take it for granted, probably because he had to wait for so long. He takes care of his truck, inside and out. He is always willing to run errands for me or take/pick up his sisters when I need him to. He tries to take back roads whenever he can-good thing you can get most anywhere in Heber on back roads.   This summer his love for cars has really amped up. He said he's always loved cars but he has just been noticing and talking about them more and more. He will point out a "cool car" whenever we are in the car and has a lot of knowledge about all the different features of the different cars. He has a dream car (can't remember which one) but also knows which color he would get in each of the different kinds of sports cars. He has slowly been buying sports car Lego sets with his birthday money, putting them together, and displaying them in his room. It's fun to see how excited h...
