Ivy's 4th birthday

Ivy turned 4 on January 19, 2019.  Her birthday fell on a Saturday this year and she thought it was great to have everyone home on her special day.  I helped her decide what she wanted for each of her meals throughout the day.  For breakfast we settled on purple crepes.  She is not a big breakfast eater but she will always eat crepes.  We also had buttermilk syrup, blueberries, bananas, and whipped cream.  Lucky girl-she even got a sit-down breakfast with the whole family with is a rare event.
She did not want a scavenger hunt for her gifts so after breakfast we gathered in the living room to watch her open presents.  Stockton and Brynn had spent some time setting up the princess castle and all her princesses on the TV stand for a birthday display...I love seeing the how excited they get for each others' birthdays.

For her birthday she got a Belle dinner play set, Beast doll, and water beads.  She saw the first two things at the Disney store several months ago and hasn't stopped talking about them.  She has absolutely no need for more toys but what do you do, she only turns 4 once.  The water beads were an extra and my kids played with them all day.  They came with cute little tweezers and some scooper things which made them even more fun.  She also got a few treats, including gum.  Remember how she got gum in her hair last August when we went camping and I banned her from gum until she turned 4?  You better believe that she didn't forget and all week leading up to her birthday she would ask me "Mom, have you bought the gum for my birthday yet?"  Not much gets past her!
We had a relax day at home.  The kids played for several hours with the water beads.  They made up some game with them.  We probably watched Beauty and the Beast because that is her favorite movie at the moment.  For lunch she requested grilled cheese and I surprised her with Cheetos.  We never have chips at home so that made it a little more special to her.  Kids are so easy to please.
April was sick but Gene and Brett came up for a couple of hours in the afternoon.  They gave her her birthday dolls (baby-4), a Hairdorables doll, and the Enchanted Forest game.  They stayed for dinner.  Ivy didn't request anything (ramen noodles don't count) so I made a baked spaghetti that always goes over well.  She had three helpings so I would say she approved of her birthday dinner!
It's hard finding fun things to do when there is a birthday in January.  It's pretty much the worst month to have a birthday.  But we did manage to have fun.  Justin knows the guy who is in charge of the Ice Castles up here.  We have never been because it's ridiculously expensive (it would have cost us $100 for about an hour spent there) but he told Justin this year to give him a call and he would get us in for free-so Justin did and he did!  Ivy was so excited to go see Elsa's ice castle and was convinced that Elsa had actually made it.  It was recommended to go at night so we made our reservation for 7.  It was crazy crowded!  We had to ride a shuttle from the parking lot just to get over there.  But it wasn't too bad...they do try to manage the crowds by having reservations and only letting so many stand-by's in.  The crowd did not bother the kids and they were in awe of all the neat things to see.  It was pretty incredible.  Justin's friend found us and gave us a VIP treatment by walking us to the front of the very long slide line.  We felt a little guilty but partly relieved that we didn't have to wait in the line-I'm sure it would have been at least a 30 minute wait.  We found some smaller slides later that didn't have a wait so the kids got to do those more than once.  It sure was a magical place and such a fun night.  It tuckered Ivy right out and she took a little nap on the drive home.
She didn't stay asleep because we still had to do birthday cake!  She requested a princess castle cake and I did my best.  She was very pleased and that's what matters.  She wanted pink frosting and pink ice cream (strawberry).  She decorated with her princesses.
The last bit of celebrating happened on Monday when my parents came to see her.  They had been at the cabin for the long weekend and drove over in a snow storm.  They didn't stay long because of the weather but they stayed long enough to spoil her with new clothes, a Calico Critter bus, and a kitty family.

Brynn @ 18 months

Yes, you read that right.  Brynn is 18 months old!!  She is so fun to have around the house and I haven't done a post devoted just to her for a while, so I thought it was about time. -She loves books!  She was never really that interested until sometime in the past couple months and now she can't get enough.  Sacrament meeting went from impossible to we can make it through...as long as I pack enough books for her.  This is how I often find her at night or during nap time. -She also loves blankets and towels, although she is not particular about which blanket.  She just wants something soft. She wants to walk around all over with them wrapped around her...they don't stay very well and she gets frustrated.  For that reason, I try to keep her blankets out of sight during the day. They come out when it's time to sleep. -Like my other kids, she loves her warm milk!  Actually, she'll drink it cold too. -She is a quiet one, always has ...

Stockton's 16th birthday

Stockton turned 16 on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. We've always told him he has the best day to have a birthday but I don't think he was convinced this year. He was anxious to turn 16 and get his license...it really felt like it took forever to get here. I told Justin that Stockton had to wait so much longer than Molly to get his license and he said, "actually, it took the exact same amount of time", which is factually true, it just felt a lot longer with Molly getting her license September of her sophomore year and Stockton not getting his until after sophomore year, before junior year. But, it did eventually arrive and we did our best to celebrate. We did the family celebration the Sunday before, since it was Girl's Camp that week and Justin, Molly, and Brynn would all be gone on his actual birthday. We had his requested dinner, meatballs, and he opened his presents. He got his favorite treats (nerd clusters, sour patch watermelon, and cow tails) and a new bat th...

all about Stockton

Stockton has loved having his license. He enjoys his independence immensely and does not take it for granted, probably because he had to wait for so long. He takes care of his truck, inside and out. He is always willing to run errands for me or take/pick up his sisters when I need him to. He tries to take back roads whenever he can-good thing you can get most anywhere in Heber on back roads.   This summer his love for cars has really amped up. He said he's always loved cars but he has just been noticing and talking about them more and more. He will point out a "cool car" whenever we are in the car and has a lot of knowledge about all the different features of the different cars. He has a dream car (can't remember which one) but also knows which color he would get in each of the different kinds of sports cars. He has slowly been buying sports car Lego sets with his birthday money, putting them together, and displaying them in his room. It's fun to see how excited h...
