Ivy's third birthday

Ivy turned 3 on January 19.  I didn't ask her what she wanted for her birthday meals since I don't think she has picked her favorites yet.  Breakfast is her worst meal-she got a doughnut and some scrambled eggs.

It was a Friday and we really didn't have special plans.  After being at the cabin with Ivy the previous weekend and seeing her love of princesses, my mom wanted to take her to the Disney Store and let her pick out her presents.  Since we had no plans, we drove to City Creek and met my mom and dad for the afternoon.  Ivy decided that Moana needed to come along.

She loved the Disney store and walked around like she was in another world.  It was quite fun to be an observer watching her.  She picked out some little princess figurines, Cinderella light-up dress-up shoes, and a Cinderella nightgown.  We went for lunch after at the Lion House.

After lunch, we drove home.  My mom and dad followed so they could do some more celebrating and to see the other kids.  My mom had a cute outfit, a unicorn backpack, and a button nail toy that she also gave her.  She got spoiled. 

I made spaghetti for dinner.  Justin had been in a meeting in Ogden all day (and the previous day) and it went late so he finally made it home so Ivy could open presents from us.  She has an unfortunate birthday so soon after Christmas so we went simple for her birthday.  We gave her a hide-a-boo hideout (a castle fort to put over a card table) and some Frozen sheets for her twin sized bed (she was still in a crib).

After she opened her presents, we finally got to sing to her and have birthday cake.  She wanted pink and we put a crown on the top and some princess-y decorations around it.  It started tipping and was gradually becoming more and more lopsided.  Ivy's not a big cake eater and usually just eats the frosting.  Her birthday was no exception.

It was late but we had been promising that she would get a big girl bed on her birthday so we needed to deliver on that promise.  We are just having her use the little bed that was my grandma's that all the girls have used over the years.  It is just the right size for little girls who are just transitioning from their cribs.  We bought a mattress earlier in the month and gave it to Brynn and gave Ivy the old one.  We also are just having her use Molly's old bedspread for now but she did have the new Frozen sheets to put on it and also Brynn's big, fluffy princess blanket for extra warmth.  She was excited to sleep in her big girl bed and did great all night!

We had also been talking for months about throwing her binkies away when she turned 3 so the very next morning, she woke up and threw all of them in the garbage.  Just like that.  She regretted it later but, considering how attached she was to them, she has done well with the transition.

Gene, April, and Brett came up on Sunday to see Ivy and give her some presents.  They gave her some pop beads, dress-up shoes, and dress-up jewelry.  Ivy had a very happy birthday and is loved by lots and lots of people!
