Grandkid Camp 2017

Our kids look forward to Grandkid Camp all year long.  For them, there is nothing much better...Bear Lake and cousins.  It was my turn to help out this year and I was happy to go along and be a part of this years Camp..."The Amazing Race!"

We actually started the day before at my mom and dad's house where we had all the kids make their tie-dye shirts.  That way the colors could set and be washed and dried by Thursday when we made the trek up to Bear Lake.  The main reason my mom and dad need a helper is because they need one extra car to fit all the kids.  I got to drive up with this cute and crazy group of girls!
Tessa in the back, Grace, Brynn, and Ivy got to tag along with mom, even though she is technically too little to be a camper
Thursday is more of a day to relax and maybe do a little bit of prep before the day of activities on Friday.  My mom had them divided into teams and they made team flags and worked on a skit.
Stockton, Grant, Grace, Chloe
Abby, Harper, Molly, Brynn
*There was a third team, the red team, composed of Ben, Gavin, Tessa, and Spencer.  I probably won't include them here, since they are not my kids!*
We played with the parachute, took golf cart rides, and just played around the cabin.

Friday morning was when the fun got started.  The kids got to wear their shirts and perform their skits.  My mom had gone to so much work to turn Garden City into an Amazing Race for the kids.  Each team had 18 clues/challenges to complete before the end of the day, or before dinner.  There were three "zones" and each group started in a different zone so that there was no overlapping.  I will try to remember all of the fun things we did.
Chloe, Grace, Stockton, Grant
Brynn, Molly, Harper, Abby
getting all the rules from Grandma
Gavin, Ben, Spencer, Seth (was just there with Ali and Jeff who had come up Thursday night), Tessa, Grace, Chloe, Molly, Abby, Grant, Stockton, Harper, Brynn
Our first zone (I was the chaperone for the blue team) was the city zone.  The six challenges were:
1. Find the war memorial and take a picture in front of the flag.
Molly, Brynn, Harper, Abby
2. Go to the park and climb to the top of the jungle gym.
Grant, Stockton, Chloe, Grace
3. Choose: spell "Lucky Kids" using Lucky Charms marshmallows (Grandma had made a key telling which marshmallow was which letter) or roll the dice and if you roll a 6, you get to splash a cousin (grandma had provided a pan with some water bottles)-not sure how many sixes you had to roll, my group chose the marshmallow challenge.
Chloe, Grace, Stockton, Grant
4. Go to the Chocolate Bear and order .67 ounces of candy.
Abby, Molly, Brynn, Harper
5. Go to Quick and Tasty, have the chaperone order two shakes of her/his choosing, and make the kids guess which flavors they were.
Grant, Stockton, Grace, Chloe
6. Go to the cemetery.  Find a headstone with a person who was born on a certain day.
The second zone was at the cabin.
1. Unscramble the letters to make a phrase (the phrase was "We Love Bear Lake")
Grace, Chloe, Stockton, Grant
2.  Make marshmallow shooters out of plastic cups and balloons.  Shoot three marshmallows into your partners bucket.
Harper, Brynn, Abby, Molly
3. Choose a cupcake liner and eat all the M&M's in it.  Keep eating until you find the liner with the smiley face drawn on the bottom.
Harper, Brynn, Abby, Molly
4. Choose: stack 6 soda bottles without them falling over or eat an individual serving of Jell-o without using your hands.
Harper, Molly, Abby, Brynn
5. Find the tree with a ribbon tied around it in your team's color.  Find the coins scattered on the ground around it.  Find a coin with your birth year on it.
6.  I can't remember the last challenge but I'm sure it was great!

Our last zone was in the area of my parents' friend's cabin.
1.  Walk around the fish pond one time.  I didn't know this place existed!
Grace, Chloe, Stockton, Grant
2.  Go to the Jensen's cabin, put together a puzzle.
Abby, Brynn, Molly, Tessa
3.  Choose: tie the pantyhose with the orange in the toe around your waist and knock down 6 water bottles or I don't remember the other option here either...my team chose the pantyhose challenge.
4. Take a Oreo and lick off the filling.  Do not use your teeth!
Grace, Stockton, Chloe, Grant
5.  Go on a nature walk.  Find the items that were listed on the sheet.
Molly, Abby, Harper, Brynn
6. Write one nice thing about each one of your cousins (my mom had a poster for each cousin that they could write a little note on.)
Everyone finished and made it back to the cabin around 3 or 4 in the afternoon.  They had fun exchanging stories and seeing what everyone wrote about them.  Molly and the older kids found a posterboard for Grandma and Grandpa and had everyone write something nice about them.
The rest of the day was spent playing around outside with a campfire later that night.  All the parents had arrived by then.  Justin decided to save some gas and get some things done at home.  We missed not having him, but he had driven up to Ogden twice in the week (family pictures and the 4th) so that would have been a lot of driving back and forth for him.  We left Saturday night instead of staying over for Sunday.

Brynn got surprised by Uncle Jeff!
The next day was our beach day.  Kids were on and off the the boat, tubing, playing in the sand, kayaking, paddleboarding, swimming, and just enjoying everything a Bear Lake beach day is.  It really doesn't get much better than this!

Brynn @ 18 months

Yes, you read that right.  Brynn is 18 months old!!  She is so fun to have around the house and I haven't done a post devoted just to her for a while, so I thought it was about time. -She loves books!  She was never really that interested until sometime in the past couple months and now she can't get enough.  Sacrament meeting went from impossible to we can make it through...as long as I pack enough books for her.  This is how I often find her at night or during nap time. -She also loves blankets and towels, although she is not particular about which blanket.  She just wants something soft. She wants to walk around all over with them wrapped around her...they don't stay very well and she gets frustrated.  For that reason, I try to keep her blankets out of sight during the day. They come out when it's time to sleep. -Like my other kids, she loves her warm milk!  Actually, she'll drink it cold too. -She is a quiet one, always has ...

Stockton's 16th birthday

Stockton turned 16 on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. We've always told him he has the best day to have a birthday but I don't think he was convinced this year. He was anxious to turn 16 and get his license...it really felt like it took forever to get here. I told Justin that Stockton had to wait so much longer than Molly to get his license and he said, "actually, it took the exact same amount of time", which is factually true, it just felt a lot longer with Molly getting her license September of her sophomore year and Stockton not getting his until after sophomore year, before junior year. But, it did eventually arrive and we did our best to celebrate. We did the family celebration the Sunday before, since it was Girl's Camp that week and Justin, Molly, and Brynn would all be gone on his actual birthday. We had his requested dinner, meatballs, and he opened his presents. He got his favorite treats (nerd clusters, sour patch watermelon, and cow tails) and a new bat th...

all about Stockton

Stockton has loved having his license. He enjoys his independence immensely and does not take it for granted, probably because he had to wait for so long. He takes care of his truck, inside and out. He is always willing to run errands for me or take/pick up his sisters when I need him to. He tries to take back roads whenever he can-good thing you can get most anywhere in Heber on back roads.   This summer his love for cars has really amped up. He said he's always loved cars but he has just been noticing and talking about them more and more. He will point out a "cool car" whenever we are in the car and has a lot of knowledge about all the different features of the different cars. He has a dream car (can't remember which one) but also knows which color he would get in each of the different kinds of sports cars. He has slowly been buying sports car Lego sets with his birthday money, putting them together, and displaying them in his room. It's fun to see how excited h...
