Our baby turned 2 on January 19th. We started her celebrations the night before when my mom and dad came up to watch one of Stockton's basketball games and then came over after for dinner, presents, and cupcakes. Ivy doesn't really have a favorite food so I ended up making some manicotti and that seemed to go over well with all the kids, as it always does. She opened her gifts from grandma and grandpa...clothes, her name pillow, a "soft" blanket-so she doesn't have to steal her siblings all the time-and a wooden mixer set.

My mom made her some pink cupcakes so she could blow out a couple of candles. She likes to lick off the frosting and leave the cake.
For her birthday breakfast, I took her to Lee's to pick out a doughnut after we had gotten everyone off to school. She is a hard one with breakfast foods so she didn't eat much of her doughnut.
We didn't have anything special planned for her birthday and Justin had to work late that night so I made sure to get in some extra playing time with just her while Brynn was at school. We put together the floor puzzle and she had lots of fun running around and being silly.
We picked up Brynn from the bus stop and ate mac and cheese for lunch. She probably likes ramen noodles best but we had that the day before. I still read to these girls every day during lunch, a tradition I'm not likely to stop.

It was pretty much a normal day after that...naptime, homework, dinner. She did get to take a bubble bath after dinner, one of her favorite things to do.
Finally, Justin made it home from work. Even though it was close to 8:00 (bedtime!) we stayed up late to do a little family party. I had wrapped her presents the night before and put them on the fireplace. She had been curious about what was in them but she didn't unwrap any of them all day, at least not all the way! We gave her some nesting blocks, a pillow pet, and a Curious George stuffed animal. It was hard to think of something for her that we didn't already have and that she would enjoy and we did a great job. She sleeps with the pillow and George every night and we've pulled the blocks out too many times to count.

We finished the night with cake. I am so not a cake decorator and usually just do cupcakes or a simple layer cake, but I had seen a unicorn cake a couple of months before and knew I wanted to try it. I adapted it to make it much simpler and it's a far cry from perfection but probably the best cake I've ever decorated. We sang to her and she blew out the candles and then we all went to bed.
We had one last small celebration the next night with Gene, April, and Brett. They brought her a fingerpainting tablet thing and a little lamb that projects lights onto her ceiling at night.
We kept our celebrating very simple but a 2-year-old doesn't need much more than that. We sure love our baby girl. Happy Birthday, Ivy!
