Fall Break Camping Trip

Like last year, we drove down to Eric and Heidi's property for Fall Break.  It borders the east rim of Zions and is very pretty.  It is always a great time with Justin's family.  Even if it is a long drive.  The drive there always takes way longer than the drive home for some reason.  It seems to take us forever to get going.  Then we have to stop for lunch.  We stopped at a Wendy's about halfway...along with half of Utah.  It looked like a forever wait so we drove to the next exit and another fast food restaurant that still took forever.  We ate sitting on the back of the tailgate.
We were excited to finally make it there and see all the cousins.  Rachelle was there with Sam and Grayson so that made it even more fun!

We spent Thursday afternoon through Saturday there.  Most of our time was spent at the campsite.  It is so pretty there.
Some of the things that we did at camp:  played games, played football, ate food, hung out around the campfire, played in the big dirt pile, played bb guns (until the boys crossed the "do not cross" line and shot out a window of a neighboring cabin), played flies up, hung out around the campfire, talked a lot (grown-ups), and played a lot (kids).  See pictures below...

On Friday we did venture away from camp for a bit.  We decided to try a trail that led to a small slot canyon right there in Orderville, but I forgot what it was called.  It was a dry river bed for the first portion and then it entered into a small slot canyon.  It was very short but just enough for the kids to get a taste of what a slot canyon is...and me, since I have never been in one before.  There was some climbing involved.  Luckily we had dads, uncles, and grandpa there to help the kids with the more difficult areas.
There was a rock that you had to climb up and over to get to the next portion of the canyon.  Justin lifted the kids up to Eric.  Sam, Jake, Cam, Stockton, Grandpa, Molly, Brynn, Evie

There was a technical name for this technique...but I forgot.  The kids were really good at this.  You can see Stockton and Brynn's bums, with Eric above them.
It was a little trickier coming back

The going back terrified Stockton to tears
The dry wash was fun for the kids to explore and climb and play around in too. I thought this was a great little excursion for the kids.  (It's too busy to actually go into Zion's but I feel like we need to do something since we did drive all that way.)

Brynn and Riley were hiking together and I told them to stand on this rock and I would take their picture together.  They posed themselves!
They are the best of friends, those two.

Eric treated all the kids to ice cream treats before we headed back to camp.

And that was the weekend.  We said our goodbyes on Saturday and then everyone headed their own way.

I'm a lucky girl to have married in to one of the greatest families!  We sure have a good time when we get together.
