His current passion is baseball. He loves to play it, watch it, and read about it. He likes to play catch with Justin. He is learning more about the rules of the game and about the players. Besides baseball, he likes sports in general. I often get questions such as, "Mom, if the Angels and the Athletics played, who would you cheer for?" or "Mom, do we like the Reds?"
He enjoys working with Justin in the yard. Justin has been teaching him how to help move sprinkler pipe in the pasture and he keeps his work shoes by the door just in case he needs to go out and help Justin or I with this chore. July 16th-Our Saturday morning conversation. "Mom, what day is it today?" "Saturday." "Yes, that means it's a dad chore day!" Meaning he gets to work outside with Justin. I'm sure he won't always be excited about this but I hope that his dad's hard work ethic rubs off on him.
Likes to play games with Brynn. They play really well together for the most part and they like to make up all sorts of games with them playing different characters. Stockton doesn't really know what to do when his sisters aren't around-it rarely happens, though, so it's not usually something he has to deal with.
Doesn't like to lose. He can be a poor sport about some games like tag and whine about things not being fair or cry when he feels like anyone is targeting or teaming up on him. He is getting a little better but it is not unusual for him to just not play a game if there is a chance that he won't win.
Stockton has a big appetite and has come around to trying new things more and more. He often has second and third helpings. I find myself having less leftovers which is not necessarily bad, except for when leftover night (always Saturdays) rolls around and I don't have any leftovers! He is also my only child that gets terribly cranky when he is hungry and can't focus on anything until he is fed.
He has always been our cautious child but he is also becoming more adventurous. He is not scared of water anymore, he is warming up to dogs (he will actually ride his bike down the street), and he even rode a horse today! (July 16th-and I totally bribed him to do that but still...)
Stockton is an excellent reader-one of the top in his class. The only problem is that he just doesn't like it very much and will seldom, hardly ever, read just for the fun of it. I have had to put reading on his chore list and I made it very specific-one chapter from a chapter book. If I didn't, he would just find the simplest picture book, read it, and check it off his list. The one thing that he does love to read and needs no encouragement to read is his Sports Illustrated Kids magazines (Justin found a subscription for $2) and any sports books we find from the library. Currently we have Baseball: Then to Wow and Big Book of Who: Basketball and he has read both of them many times.
Stockton doesn't like to do anything "hard" and would still prefer that I do a lot of basic things for him. We are trying to teach him to be a bit more independent and that sometimes we have to do things that are hard. He's been doing okay with his summer chores but definitely not at the level Molly does. Sometimes even Brynn beats him.
He still loves to have warm milk before bed.
