Stockton's 4th birthday

Stockton was so excited for his birthday and talked about it for months.  He would always say, "it's taking for too long."  He was a pretty happy boy when it finally rolled around.  We were actually in Lava when it came so he was able to celebrate with his cousins and that was super fun for him.  After we went to the pool and had dinner we had a little celebration for him and he was able to open presents.  He got a small Optimus Prime Rescue Bot with Cody, some swords, clothes, an Iron Man car with Iron Man, and a Spiderman cross-bow.
I had a few different thoughts for cakes but decided it would be too hard to do anything fancy while we were camping (or maybe that was my excuse) so we went with some easy cupcakes, red and black frosting, and Batman and Superman toppers.  We sang to Stockton and he blew out the candles.
His birthday fell on the day we were heading home.  I felt a little bad that he was stuck in the car for so many hours on his birthday but he was a good sport about it.  And once we got home and he saw the presents waiting for him, it all ended up okay.  He got a little spoiled...a couple of Rescue Bots, a couple of cars, some Avengers jammies, Spiderman Sunglasses, a Joker, and a Batwing.

It was so late that we didn't even do any cake or ice cream or anything.  Stockton played with his toys for a little bit and then went right to bed.

Gene and April came the next day.  It was such a nice evening we just hung out on the grass outside.  I had hinted to April that Stockton had been enjoying Jake and the Neverland Pirates lately so they brought him the Jake pirate ship, Bucky.  It's nice to have something different to play with every once in a while.  He also got some read-to-me books that he can do all by himself.
I didn't have time to make more cupcakes or a cake but I did pick up an ice cream cake at Macey's that worked for his cake that night.  I was feeling guilty for doing nothing the night before.

I had such a hard time getting Stockton to sit down and do his birthday interview with me.  I tried for three or four days but each time he would say, "I'm not doing that mom."  I finally resorted to bribery and told him he'd get a treat if he would just answer a few questions.  So he did.  Some of the answers he gave are not exactly what I would say so I put my answers in parentheses following his answers.

Stockton at 4 years old:
Favorite color: Blue
Favorite movie: Cars (He hasn't watched Cars for a long time, in fact he claims he doesn't like Cars anymore.  Actually, he doesn't really like movies anymore.  He says they are too long.)
Favorite breakfast: Peanut butter and honey. (He gets his meals mixed up.  Breakfast is easy with him because he's always so hungry when he wakes up.  He'll eat pancakes, oatmeal, muffins, and cereal really well.)
Favorite dinner: Peanut butter and honey again. (This is what he always wants for lunch.  I wouldn't know what his favorite dinner is.)
Best friend: Rhys.
Favorite TV show: I said Cars. (He most often chooses Rescue Bots on Netflix.)
Favorite scripture story: President Monson. (He couldn't name a scripture story so I asked him his favorite prophet.)
Favorite book: Cars.
Favorite game: Superheroes.
Favorite story: Rescue Bots, roll to the rescue. (Don't know that story.)
What do you like about your Mom? Plays Rescue Bots.
What do you like about your Dad? Playing cars.
What do you like about Molly? She plays superheroes with me.
What do you like about Brynn? She plays cars with me too.
What do you like about yourself? That I have Rescue Bots.
When I grow up I want to be: A policeman. (Never heard him say that before!)
I like learning about: Preschool.
I want to go to: To Macey's.  Because I like race cars. (He really does like to go to Macey's and sit in the race car carts.)
Favorite thing to do: Playing with Rescue Bots.
Favorite song: Spiderman.

Now here are some things to remember Stockton at this age:
He was so excited to turn 4 and now that he has, he is constantly talking about being 5.  He seems to think that someday he is going to pass Molly up in age.
He's into superheros and Rescue Bots.  Occasionally, something else will sneak in there, like Jake the Neverland Pirate or Cars.
He's finally to the point that he stays in his bed all night and rarely sneaks in to snuggle with me.
He puts off his chores as long as possible and lately hasn't even been able to go out to play with friends because he just won't do his (very few!) chores.  I also have a hard time getting him to just pick up his toys that he gets out.  He also think that he needs my help to do the very smallest chore and I can't figure out how to get him to be more independent in this area.
He gets to go to preschool at Molly's school this year and he thinks that is pretty special.  He's been asking me about it a lot lately and is anxious to get started.
He loves warm milk.  He knows that he can't get milk if he doesn't eat dinner so that's how we get him to eat dinner a lot of nights.
I wouldn't say he's a picky eater but if anything looks different then he won't try it.  If we can get him to try it then he'll usually eat it.  With the right motivation, he'll usually clean his plate.  Our current motivation is this: after lunch he gets to choose a small treat and after dinner he gets warm milk.
It's hard for me to get him to eat fruits and veggies.  He'll eat: applesauce, watermelon, apples, bananas, carrots, broccoli, and corn on the cob.  Nothing like peaches, pears, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, green beans, asparagus, etc.  I don't think he's ever even tried these things.
He is the type that is a little nervous to try new things (riding his bike, swimming, etc.) but once he tries it then he can usually relax enough to have fun.
He is so good when he's not at home.  Just sweet as can be in Primary and in other people's homes.
He's good at home too, but we are working on listening and obeying, not yelling, and working things out with Brynn in a more healthy way, especially when she is doing something that bothers him.
He gets really excited for Family Home Evening but has a hard time sitting still when it finally rolls around.  He also won't sit down for scriptures in the morning.
He's not a huge reader but if you find that one book that he loves then he'll sit and listen to it over and over and over again.
He's also not one to sit and color or make a craft.  I guess that's just the boy in him.
He'll have nothing to do with girly things...pink or purple or fingernail polish or makeup or anything similar.
Molly's had the chance to go on a few overnighters at grandma's or a cousin's or aunt's and he really misses her when she's gone.  She is definitely his entertainment.
When they are in the right mood, he and Brynn are best friends and come up with some pretty fun games.
He enjoys going to Sunbeams but not sacrament too much.  He's usually too hungry, too bored, or too hot (we usually end up taking his shoes and socks off).  I'm hoping this is just an age thing and that eventually he'll enjoy church.
He makes up the most hilarious words.  Scrabs=scabs/scratches; Hunderdog=underdog; Scarv=schuffle/deal cards; Hugantic=huge/gigantic; Ears muskes=headphones; some more that I'm sure I'm forgetting.  I don't correct them because eventually he'll figure it out but for now it's just really adorable!
All of his "th" blends come out sounding like an "f" and I think it is the cutest thing, although as he gets older we'll probably have to work on that.
His "v" sounds used sound like a "b" but we did get that fixed recently.  Now anytime he says "very" he'll emphasize the "v" sound.  (Example: Mom will you shake my milk v-v-very good?)
His favorite music to listen to at night is Primary music.  He still loves the song "I Know Heavenly Father Loves Me" and can sing every word.

Stockton is such a fun boy.  At home he can be crazy and silly and a joy to be around.  We love him so much and love what he brings to our family.

Happy Birthday buddy!

Brynn @ 18 months

Yes, you read that right.  Brynn is 18 months old!!  She is so fun to have around the house and I haven't done a post devoted just to her for a while, so I thought it was about time. -She loves books!  She was never really that interested until sometime in the past couple months and now she can't get enough.  Sacrament meeting went from impossible to we can make it through...as long as I pack enough books for her.  This is how I often find her at night or during nap time. -She also loves blankets and towels, although she is not particular about which blanket.  She just wants something soft. She wants to walk around all over with them wrapped around her...they don't stay very well and she gets frustrated.  For that reason, I try to keep her blankets out of sight during the day. They come out when it's time to sleep. -Like my other kids, she loves her warm milk!  Actually, she'll drink it cold too. -She is a quiet one, always has ...

Stockton's 16th birthday

Stockton turned 16 on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. We've always told him he has the best day to have a birthday but I don't think he was convinced this year. He was anxious to turn 16 and get his license...it really felt like it took forever to get here. I told Justin that Stockton had to wait so much longer than Molly to get his license and he said, "actually, it took the exact same amount of time", which is factually true, it just felt a lot longer with Molly getting her license September of her sophomore year and Stockton not getting his until after sophomore year, before junior year. But, it did eventually arrive and we did our best to celebrate. We did the family celebration the Sunday before, since it was Girl's Camp that week and Justin, Molly, and Brynn would all be gone on his actual birthday. We had his requested dinner, meatballs, and he opened his presents. He got his favorite treats (nerd clusters, sour patch watermelon, and cow tails) and a new bat th...

all about Stockton

Stockton has loved having his license. He enjoys his independence immensely and does not take it for granted, probably because he had to wait for so long. He takes care of his truck, inside and out. He is always willing to run errands for me or take/pick up his sisters when I need him to. He tries to take back roads whenever he can-good thing you can get most anywhere in Heber on back roads.   This summer his love for cars has really amped up. He said he's always loved cars but he has just been noticing and talking about them more and more. He will point out a "cool car" whenever we are in the car and has a lot of knowledge about all the different features of the different cars. He has a dream car (can't remember which one) but also knows which color he would get in each of the different kinds of sports cars. He has slowly been buying sports car Lego sets with his birthday money, putting them together, and displaying them in his room. It's fun to see how excited h...
