Molly's 13th birthday

Molly turned 13 on Sunday, September 15th.  Yes, I said 13-officially a teenager! It was her year for a party but I told her it would be more of a hang-out and we specifically asked that the girls bring no presents, although some still did.  It ended up being more of a party after all and it was so fun!  We held it on Friday the 13th since she was at Youth Conference all day on the 14th.  She decided she wanted a 60s theme.  I don't know how 60s it was, but everyone was happy all around.  We had all the girls come to our house at 6:30 and we had burgers and fries (like a 60's diner) along with layered jello salad, chips, fruit, and soda.

And the only boy, enjoying his burger.  He's such a stud.
After dinner, we had banana splits/ice cream sundaes.  Molly wanted to do milkshakes to go with the 60s diner theme but I thought sundaes would be easier.  There were a few different flavors of ice cream and lots of toppings to go with it.  Man, 12- and 13-year old girls can eat! They swarmed the picnic table every time I brought something new out.

Justin started a fire because it was a little cold outside but we didn't keep it going.  We set up the projector and screen (borrowed from my parents) and when it got dark, we started the movie for them.  Molly decided on Hairspray because it takes place in the 60s (and the song "Welcome to the Sixties").  The girls bundled up and I brought out all the extra blankets that we had.  It wasn't freezing but it does cool down at night in September.  They survived on candy-Molly had researched candy that came out in the 60s and that is what I bought for them.  And popcorn, of course.  After the movie, there was a dance party while we waited for parents to come.  It was a simple party and so much fun.

Her birthday was on a Sunday so that was nice for her to be able to have a relaxing morning.  She wanted French Toast with buttermilk syrup, bananas, and whipped cream for breakfast. She got to wear a new dress and new sandals to church.
She was so good to wait until after church to do her scavenger hunt since Justin was tied up in meetings before.  For her birthday she got a HydroFlask (knock-off brand), a Carly Lloyd jersey, and some overalls with a shirt that she had picked out.  Also, the new dress that she wore that day.
She really wanted to decorate her own cake so I baked it and frosted it and then she borrowed some frosting tips from a neighbor so she could decorate.  It was going pretty well (for her first time) but then sort of went a little downhill.  My parents showed up mid-decorating with Chloe and Abby and they both wanted in on the action.  They got a little crazy and someone talked Molly into taking all the flowers that she had made on top and smearing them all over the top of the cake.  I could tell that she was a little disappointed with that decision.  But then she recovered and made more flowers and spelled out her name and the number 13 on the top.  I think in the end she was okay with what it looked like.

My mom had taken her shopping already so from them she got all the clothes she picked out, sandals, a sleeping bag (need), and a letterboard for her room.
We had her requested dinner which was chicken alfredo.  I also made some garlic rolls and a caesar salad.  Since I knew my dad was coming (he doesn't like white sauce) and Chloe was going to be there (she has a dairy sensitivity), I also made some spaghetti.  Then we sang to her and had cake (and probably ice cream).  I bought sparkler candles because I thought they were cool and they also ended up being trick candles so that was funny to watch.
Gene and April came up on Monday night for dinner.  I made hawaiian haystacks.  It had been such a crazy day (Monday's always are) and they had less than an hour since Molly had practice that night.  For Molly's birthday, April gifted her a whole box full of cake decorating stuff...a lazy susan cake stand, off-set spatula, regular spatula, tons of different frosting tips, piping bags, etc.   The icing on the cake (literally) was that she had also come with mini cupcakes and buttercream for Molly to practice with that night and, since April is a much better cake decorator than I am, she was able to show Molly a few things.  They had a lot of fun experimenting that night.  It was a short visit since Molly had practice but it was nice of them to drive up, especially since Gene had been up so much helping on the house.

Brynn @ 18 months

Yes, you read that right.  Brynn is 18 months old!!  She is so fun to have around the house and I haven't done a post devoted just to her for a while, so I thought it was about time. -She loves books!  She was never really that interested until sometime in the past couple months and now she can't get enough.  Sacrament meeting went from impossible to we can make it through...as long as I pack enough books for her.  This is how I often find her at night or during nap time. -She also loves blankets and towels, although she is not particular about which blanket.  She just wants something soft. She wants to walk around all over with them wrapped around her...they don't stay very well and she gets frustrated.  For that reason, I try to keep her blankets out of sight during the day. They come out when it's time to sleep. -Like my other kids, she loves her warm milk!  Actually, she'll drink it cold too. -She is a quiet one, always has ...

Stockton's 16th birthday

Stockton turned 16 on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. We've always told him he has the best day to have a birthday but I don't think he was convinced this year. He was anxious to turn 16 and get his license...it really felt like it took forever to get here. I told Justin that Stockton had to wait so much longer than Molly to get his license and he said, "actually, it took the exact same amount of time", which is factually true, it just felt a lot longer with Molly getting her license September of her sophomore year and Stockton not getting his until after sophomore year, before junior year. But, it did eventually arrive and we did our best to celebrate. We did the family celebration the Sunday before, since it was Girl's Camp that week and Justin, Molly, and Brynn would all be gone on his actual birthday. We had his requested dinner, meatballs, and he opened his presents. He got his favorite treats (nerd clusters, sour patch watermelon, and cow tails) and a new bat th...

all about Stockton

Stockton has loved having his license. He enjoys his independence immensely and does not take it for granted, probably because he had to wait for so long. He takes care of his truck, inside and out. He is always willing to run errands for me or take/pick up his sisters when I need him to. He tries to take back roads whenever he can-good thing you can get most anywhere in Heber on back roads.   This summer his love for cars has really amped up. He said he's always loved cars but he has just been noticing and talking about them more and more. He will point out a "cool car" whenever we are in the car and has a lot of knowledge about all the different features of the different cars. He has a dream car (can't remember which one) but also knows which color he would get in each of the different kinds of sports cars. He has slowly been buying sports car Lego sets with his birthday money, putting them together, and displaying them in his room. It's fun to see how excited h...
