Spring Break, Part 2

When we first arrived in San Diego we looked at the weather and decided that the warmest day would be our beach day which ended up being on Wednesday.  We still hadn't decided exactly which beach we were going to go to but we also knew we wanted to check out La Jolla Cove so we went there first.  Justin and Stockton hiked down to this amazing, pristine beach and played for a few minutes.  It was an awesome beach but not very easily accessible (we had a big group with all our gear and food and it would have been a pain to lug it down) and we knew the beach would not last long once the tide started creeping up.
We walked down the shore to find the rest of our group and see the sea lions.  There were so many of them just out basking in the sun!

Finally, we asked some locals and they said to go to La Jolla Shores which was very close.  It ended up being the perfect spot to spend the whole day.  When I think of a beach, this is exactly what I think of.  The kids wasted no time getting busy digging in the sand and jumping waves.

Molly literally spent the entire time in the ocean jumping waves with her cousins and various adults...mostly Justin, Jeff, and Christopher.  I went out with them for a little bit.  She came in for food and snack breaks but that was it.  She had a blast!

Stockton did a mix of digging and jumping waves.  He never got quite as far out as Molly but he enjoyed playing in the water with Grant.

Brynn spent most of her day digging in the sand with Grace but she did venture out to the water a little as well.
Grace and Brynn-they were making me laugh so hard because they would run down to the water with their teeny tiny cups, fill them up with water, run all the way back to where they were digging, dump their water in the hole they had dug, and then do it all again!  I don't know why they didn't use the big bucket!

And Ivy was perfectly content to dig all day long.  She was entertained by this the entire time we were there, which was most of the day.  This was great for me because I didn't have to worry about her and the water.  She did go out to the water toward the end of the day and also loved that.  She is not afraid of many things!

As you can see by the many happy faces, this was such a great day!  Probably a favorite of all the kids!
Our final day was spent at Sea World.

One of the first things we saw was the sea turtle exhibit.  This was my absolute favorite exhibit of the whole day.  I just thought those turtles were amazing-they were huge!  The pictures do not do them justice.

We saw the dolphin show, the killer whale show, and the sea otter show.  Stockton got a whole bunch of us to sit on the front row in the "soak zone" for the sea otter show but we didn't get sprayed too much.  The kids were a little disappointed but that is the show that is so funny that they laughed the whole time and it ended up being just fine.

The good thing about Sea World is that you can easily see everything by around 4 and it closes at 5.  In more recent years, they have added some rides.  They weren't a priority for us but we did have time so those who wanted to do that were able to.

Brynn was so sad that every single ride we walked up to, she was too short to go on.  She really was looking forward to riding the river ride but, again, she was too short.  And not just barely, she was too short by 3-4 inches so it was noticeable.  She was so sad and tried so hard not to cry.  Justin still wanted to try to sneak her on so we waited in line with her and I carried her on to the ride.  No one checked her (or Seth who was being snuck on by Jeff) and she was able to ride it.  She loved it!  You can't tell in the picture, but her and Seth got soaked!

We wouldn't have done that if it was a roller coaster ride where they had to be buckled in tight.  It's just like the Rattlesnake Rapids ride at Lagoon that she's done numerous times so we figured she wouldn't fall out!

We ended the night with everyone else at the gift shop.  The kids had used their spending money but they had money in their savings accounts from last summer's chores so they were able to use that.  Molly picked a penguin, Stockton a killer whale, and Brynn picked a little seashell jewelry case with some rings in it.  I picked Ivy a stuffed sea turtle with a small little baby turtle in a pouch on it's back.
We were all exhausted as we left the park.  It was a really good thing we did Sea World last because it was a little more relaxing than either the zoo or the beach.  We asked around and found a little place for fish and chips for dinner that night.
It was an awesome trip!  We drove to Saint George the next day and then home after that.  So glad we got to spend a whole week with my family.  I am more and more grateful for every single one of them  each day.

Brynn @ 18 months

Yes, you read that right.  Brynn is 18 months old!!  She is so fun to have around the house and I haven't done a post devoted just to her for a while, so I thought it was about time. -She loves books!  She was never really that interested until sometime in the past couple months and now she can't get enough.  Sacrament meeting went from impossible to we can make it through...as long as I pack enough books for her.  This is how I often find her at night or during nap time. -She also loves blankets and towels, although she is not particular about which blanket.  She just wants something soft. She wants to walk around all over with them wrapped around her...they don't stay very well and she gets frustrated.  For that reason, I try to keep her blankets out of sight during the day. They come out when it's time to sleep. -Like my other kids, she loves her warm milk!  Actually, she'll drink it cold too. -She is a quiet one, always has ...

Stockton's 16th birthday

Stockton turned 16 on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. We've always told him he has the best day to have a birthday but I don't think he was convinced this year. He was anxious to turn 16 and get his license...it really felt like it took forever to get here. I told Justin that Stockton had to wait so much longer than Molly to get his license and he said, "actually, it took the exact same amount of time", which is factually true, it just felt a lot longer with Molly getting her license September of her sophomore year and Stockton not getting his until after sophomore year, before junior year. But, it did eventually arrive and we did our best to celebrate. We did the family celebration the Sunday before, since it was Girl's Camp that week and Justin, Molly, and Brynn would all be gone on his actual birthday. We had his requested dinner, meatballs, and he opened his presents. He got his favorite treats (nerd clusters, sour patch watermelon, and cow tails) and a new bat th...

all about Stockton

Stockton has loved having his license. He enjoys his independence immensely and does not take it for granted, probably because he had to wait for so long. He takes care of his truck, inside and out. He is always willing to run errands for me or take/pick up his sisters when I need him to. He tries to take back roads whenever he can-good thing you can get most anywhere in Heber on back roads.   This summer his love for cars has really amped up. He said he's always loved cars but he has just been noticing and talking about them more and more. He will point out a "cool car" whenever we are in the car and has a lot of knowledge about all the different features of the different cars. He has a dream car (can't remember which one) but also knows which color he would get in each of the different kinds of sports cars. He has slowly been buying sports car Lego sets with his birthday money, putting them together, and displaying them in his room. It's fun to see how excited h...
