Grandkid Camp, Bear Lake, and Pioneer Day

Grandkid Camp was held this year on Thursday and Friday, July 21st and 22nd.  Grandma picked my three oldest up on Wednesday so they could be there when it started on Thursday morning.

The theme for this year's Grandkid Camp was an Olympic one.  An easy choice since the Olympics started the following week.  I wasn't there to see most of their activities but I have a few pictures that were sent to me.  I will try to post some more when I get the rest.

Swimming activities-they did diving, synchronized swimming (just the girls), and some of the different swimming strokes.

They did a bike obstacle course.

When they got to the cabin they made team flags.

And then they did a whole bunch of other fun things.  Again, I will have to post pictures later.  I know they had a lot, a lot, a lot of fun with their cousins and grandparents.

Justin had Friday off so we drove up during Ivy's naptime and got there at about 4.  By that time the games were over and everyone was just playing.
They got USA shirts.  The front of them have an American flag and the Olympic rings on them.

Saturday was our beach/lake day. There was lots of boating and jet-skiing and tubing and playing in the sand. Ivy loved the beach.
When we were back from the lake and all showered, my mom and dad did the closing ceremonies.  They marched in with their flags.
Stockton, Ben, Harper
Brynn, Chloe, Seth, Gavin (Seth wasn't old enough for camp yet but wanted to be part of the parade)
Molly and Grace (missing Spencer)
My mom had made each kid three medals from the two days of Olympic "events" that they participated it.  They were individualized to what each kid did well-those kids were truly excited and happy about the awards they got!
Some of the girls showed us their rhythmic dances that they had made up.

On Sunday we went to church and then spent the afternoon at the cabin.  Some of my favorite memories are from relaxing in that beautiful place with people I love.

All my sibling had to go home but we ended up staying one extra night...the perks of a banker husband is that he gets every holiday off. Monday was observed as Pioneer Day.

Our goal was to get up and get going on Monday morning, which we did, but not before a little bit more fun at the cabin.  Ivy loved climbing on the 4-wheeler and even got a little ride from grandpa.
I had been wanting spend a day in Logan and show the kids around our old stomping grounds. It worked out well to do it on Pioneer Day since we were already at the cabin and supposed to be at Gene and April's that night.  We went to the temple first and walked around the grounds.
It's amazing to think of the work that the pioneers put into this temple.

When I was a college student I would do baptisms at the Logan temple every Wednesday and I am grateful that I was able to do that.
I received my endowment in the Logan temple on December 6, 2003.  A special day with lots of family surrounding me.
The Logan temple was our newlywed temple so the one we went to as a young married couple.  A special place for us.  I also love this picture Justin took of the kids.  It really was not posed...we had just walked to the corner of the grounds and they all turned around and looked back at the temple and Justin was in the right spot at the right time to take a quick picture.
We drove to Old Farm and showed the kids the apartments we lived in as freshmen and told them how and where we first met.  It was right here at my freshmen apartment, H-2.
I had come from work one Friday night (the second week of school) to find some of my roommates and a couple of guys I didn't know sitting around watching "Maverik."  One of those guys happened to be freshman Justin.  He remembers me jumping over his legs (he was sitting on the floor) to get to the kitchen.  That was our first official meeting.  After that, we sat by each other at the ward Linger Longer on Sunday after church, then we were put in the same Family Home Evening group, then he asked me to go play racquetball with him, then he learned how to ride his unicycle with me on his shoulders for the ward talent show, then we went to USU Homecoming together, then we ran the Homecoming 5K together...and pretty much the rest of it is history but we spent as much time together as we could until he left for his mission at the end of May.

We got some lunch and took it to the Utah State campus.  We sat down right on the Quad and ate our lunch and threw a frisbee around for a while.  We pointed out some of the buildings around the Quad and reminisced about which classes we had in which buildings.  We told the kids about our adventures playing Ultimate Frisbee intramurals-and winning the championship a couple of years in a row.  We took pictures on the A.
We ended up walking from one end of campus to the other.  What a walk down memory lane!  I hadn't been there since I graduated and it was so fun and nostalgic to walk around and remember classes, and people, and our courtship-a large part of that happened right there on campus.  Justin spent the majority of his college career in the business building.
We had to go to Aggie Ice Cream.  Not only is it the best ice cream ever-really, it's been proven!-but also holds lots of memories since I worked there for 3 years.  I was even able to work one year with Erin and one year with Ali and saw Bryce a whole bunch when he was working on his Master's degree in the Food Science building.  And I tasted lots of ice cream!  Aggie Blue Mint is definitely my favorite (it's what I requested Ali to bring me in the hospital right after I had Molly) but on that day I got a scoop of another favorite, Chocolate English Toffee.  Yum!
We also drove around and showed the kids some other landmarks like the Golden Toaster (church building where we did our unicycle trick for the first time-sadly, we just showed them a field because the church is not there any more), the church building where we went to church, the hospital where Molly was born, and the two apartments we lived in before we moved.  We moved from Logan 8 1/2 years ago and had never really been back other than to just drive through, so this was a fun day and I hope we can do it again!  I am so grateful for the many, many experiences and people I met during my time in Logan.  My life would be completely different had I not decided to go to school there.

We left Logan and drove right to Gene and April's for a barbecue get together.  April showed the kids a game involving plastic cups, mirrors, and water.  We also played on their new swingset, ate some good food, talked, and wandered around the neighborhood looking for fireworks when it got dark.

What a great weekend spent with our two awesome families!

  1. What a fun time in Logan. We go there frequently to visit my brother but I've never taken my kids to the university to show them around. I need to balance out the BYU influence they get around here. (I may have graduated from BYU but USU is in my blood and it was my favorite year of college)

  2. I love all of your Logan memories. We did a similar trip a few summers ago and we had so much fun showing the kids around. We were also trying pretty hard to convince them they should go to college there some day. :) It really has so many memories though and I love that place.

Brynn @ 18 months

Yes, you read that right.  Brynn is 18 months old!!  She is so fun to have around the house and I haven't done a post devoted just to her for a while, so I thought it was about time. -She loves books!  She was never really that interested until sometime in the past couple months and now she can't get enough.  Sacrament meeting went from impossible to we can make it through...as long as I pack enough books for her.  This is how I often find her at night or during nap time. -She also loves blankets and towels, although she is not particular about which blanket.  She just wants something soft. She wants to walk around all over with them wrapped around her...they don't stay very well and she gets frustrated.  For that reason, I try to keep her blankets out of sight during the day. They come out when it's time to sleep. -Like my other kids, she loves her warm milk!  Actually, she'll drink it cold too. -She is a quiet one, always has ...

Stockton's 16th birthday

Stockton turned 16 on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. We've always told him he has the best day to have a birthday but I don't think he was convinced this year. He was anxious to turn 16 and get his license...it really felt like it took forever to get here. I told Justin that Stockton had to wait so much longer than Molly to get his license and he said, "actually, it took the exact same amount of time", which is factually true, it just felt a lot longer with Molly getting her license September of her sophomore year and Stockton not getting his until after sophomore year, before junior year. But, it did eventually arrive and we did our best to celebrate. We did the family celebration the Sunday before, since it was Girl's Camp that week and Justin, Molly, and Brynn would all be gone on his actual birthday. We had his requested dinner, meatballs, and he opened his presents. He got his favorite treats (nerd clusters, sour patch watermelon, and cow tails) and a new bat th...

all about Stockton

Stockton has loved having his license. He enjoys his independence immensely and does not take it for granted, probably because he had to wait for so long. He takes care of his truck, inside and out. He is always willing to run errands for me or take/pick up his sisters when I need him to. He tries to take back roads whenever he can-good thing you can get most anywhere in Heber on back roads.   This summer his love for cars has really amped up. He said he's always loved cars but he has just been noticing and talking about them more and more. He will point out a "cool car" whenever we are in the car and has a lot of knowledge about all the different features of the different cars. He has a dream car (can't remember which one) but also knows which color he would get in each of the different kinds of sports cars. He has slowly been buying sports car Lego sets with his birthday money, putting them together, and displaying them in his room. It's fun to see how excited h...
