A week in Plain City and the Moyes summer staycation

I knew that I wanted to go to stay at my parent's house for longer than just one night.  We only make it there for holidays or something specific and I wanted a chance to just go and have some unstructured time. So I took the kids and we went for a whole week in August.  On Monday, we just played.  It was a rainy day so the kids played with their cousins inside and out.  We're the only family in my extended family that lives somewhere other than right there in Plain City (the Walker's live in Warren but it's 5 minutes away, Bryce and Ali live on the same street as my mom and dad) so it's sort of a big deal when we visit-everyone is so excited to have our kids there to play with.

Tuesday was hair day.  The girls needed cuts and I did as well.  I had been planning on cutting Brynn's hair short.  It was getting so long but it was still a little on the thin side.  Here's a before.
She loved sitting up there in that chair.  She must have felt very grown-up.
Here's an after.  It's so cute!
Here's another after picture, once I combed it.
Molly also got a cut.  She just wanted a trim...actually, she didn't want any cut off but I told her she needed to get the unhealthy ends trimmed off.  Before:

That afternoon we just hung out by the pool and let the kids swim.

Another request of mine was to visit Zeppe's for some delicious Italian Ice so that's what we did after dinner that night.  Yum, so good!

Gavin and Molly and Stockton and Grant thought it would be fun to switch houses for sleeping at night.  So that night Molly slept at Jeff and Ali's with Gavin and Grant slept at Grandma and Grandpa's with Stockton.  They just slept on the floor in the playroom.
On Wednesday the kids and I went to visit an old friend of mine, Karla, and her four kiddos.  She was my very best friend in high school and so I try to get to her house at least every year when I'm in Plain City.  Her oldest daughter, Jane, is just a month younger than Molly and I think they are to the point where they remember each other and they don't waste a lot of time being shy.  They really had a great time playing this summer and both of them were bummed when it was time for us to go.  (Thanks, Karla, for the visit and the pizza!  Wish we could see you more often!)

We entertained the idea of going school shopping that afternoon but Brynn fell asleep on the couch after lunch so we stayed home instead.

We had another relaxing afternoon where the kids just got to play with their cousins but the exciting part of the day was when we let them go out to swim after dinner, when it got dark.  Night swimming is awesome!

That night Stockton slept at Jeff and Ali's with Grant, and Gavin slept at Grandma and Grandpa's with Molly.
Part of my reason for going this particular week was because it coincided with the Weber County Fair.  Chloe was showing a pig this year and I really wanted to watch her.  (I used to show lambs there and I also used to work there for the summers but I hadn't been back since I got married!)  We went to see Chloe first.
Brynn, Tessa, Chloe, Molly, Gavin, Stockton
She did such a great job for her first time showing an animal!  She did well in the show and excelled in her showmanship (how you present your animal-it's kind of a big deal).  We were all so proud of that cute girl!

Since we were there, we decided to check out the rest of the fair as well.  It was kids day so the library had set up an area with games for the kids to play.

We went to the petting zoo.
This is really brave of Stockton-he was trying to stay in the middle of the aisles the whole time so he wouldn't have to touch an animal.  He eventually caved and decided to pet a goat.
When we went back to the pig barn, he wanted to stand in front of Dusty's cage for a picture.
After a good hand-washing, we also had snow cones.
When we were done with the fair, we headed up to the cabin for a couple of days.  It was Raspberry Days weekend and we arrived just in time to watch the parade.

We really didn't do anything special at the cabin.  But that's what's so great about it...we can just relax all day and the kids never get bored because the cabin is just a vacation for them.  We did make it down to the park and walk through the booths and the kids got to pick a little trinket to take home. And we had more snow cones.

Molly was glad Grace was there to keep her company-Chloe was busy with the fair and Abby and Gavin and Ben had gone backpacking with their dads so her normal playmates were not there.  But these two got along great!

We went home on Saturday morning but we weren't home for too many days because the following Friday and Saturday was our Moyes vacation.  My mom decided this year to stick close to home so on Friday we started the vacation at Cherry Hill water park.

We stayed all day and had a great time.  I took very few pictures because cameras and water don't mix too well.  Molly and Stockton loved the tube and dragon slides and the big pools.  Brynn loved the kiddie pool and the little slide that was there.  She also enjoyed the dragon slide because she could ride with an older cousin or adult.  The lazy river was a favorite for everyone.  Ivy loved splashing her feet in the water.

We went back to my mom and dad's for dinner and some night games before sleeping outside in tents.

Unfortunately, Justin was stuck at work this day (with a teller sick and another just quit) so I was flying solo with the kids.  I had plenty of help at the water park and my kids got to sleep in the trailer with Grandma and Grandpa while I slept in the house with Ivy.  They loved that.
The next day was Lagoon.  We were there all day, all over the place, in every different grouping you could imagine.  Brynn's favorite ride last year was the whale ride, so I stuck her on that one first.  It was fun, but she wasn't too impressed.  It did not elicit the giggles that it did last year-I guess she is too old.
Bombora is a crowd pleaser and this was the first year that Stockton tried it.  He loved it.

Playing around in the kiddie area.  I love to see the cousin combinations because everyone was just excited to be there that it didn't matter who rode with who.

Molly didn't like The Bat two years ago when I took her on it.  She tried it again this year and it was a hit.  This ended up being one of Stockton's favorite's too.
After lunch we all headed over to Rattlesnake Rapids to cool off a bit.  It was the longest line that day.
Gavin, Brynn, Ivy, Justin, Stockton, Molly, Grandma, Tessa, Grandpa, Ali, Grant, Jeff, Seth asleep in the stroller
Then we took a break for some ice cream.  And naps for those who needed them.

More rides that afternoon.

Molly didn't really want to ride the kiddie rides so she was able to go with Justin and some of the bigger kids to the bigger rides.  They rode Wicked, Colossus, The Spider, the white roller coaster...I think she also did The Rocket and Jetstar but I wasn't with her so I'm not sure.  Definitely not afraid to try anything though.
Jeff, Gavin, Molly, Justin on Wicked
Tessa and Molly
Last ride of the night before heading home.  They were still going strong, with their hands high in the air.

Brynn @ 18 months

Yes, you read that right.  Brynn is 18 months old!!  She is so fun to have around the house and I haven't done a post devoted just to her for a while, so I thought it was about time. -She loves books!  She was never really that interested until sometime in the past couple months and now she can't get enough.  Sacrament meeting went from impossible to we can make it through...as long as I pack enough books for her.  This is how I often find her at night or during nap time. -She also loves blankets and towels, although she is not particular about which blanket.  She just wants something soft. She wants to walk around all over with them wrapped around her...they don't stay very well and she gets frustrated.  For that reason, I try to keep her blankets out of sight during the day. They come out when it's time to sleep. -Like my other kids, she loves her warm milk!  Actually, she'll drink it cold too. -She is a quiet one, always has ...

Stockton's 16th birthday

Stockton turned 16 on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. We've always told him he has the best day to have a birthday but I don't think he was convinced this year. He was anxious to turn 16 and get his license...it really felt like it took forever to get here. I told Justin that Stockton had to wait so much longer than Molly to get his license and he said, "actually, it took the exact same amount of time", which is factually true, it just felt a lot longer with Molly getting her license September of her sophomore year and Stockton not getting his until after sophomore year, before junior year. But, it did eventually arrive and we did our best to celebrate. We did the family celebration the Sunday before, since it was Girl's Camp that week and Justin, Molly, and Brynn would all be gone on his actual birthday. We had his requested dinner, meatballs, and he opened his presents. He got his favorite treats (nerd clusters, sour patch watermelon, and cow tails) and a new bat th...

all about Stockton

Stockton has loved having his license. He enjoys his independence immensely and does not take it for granted, probably because he had to wait for so long. He takes care of his truck, inside and out. He is always willing to run errands for me or take/pick up his sisters when I need him to. He tries to take back roads whenever he can-good thing you can get most anywhere in Heber on back roads.   This summer his love for cars has really amped up. He said he's always loved cars but he has just been noticing and talking about them more and more. He will point out a "cool car" whenever we are in the car and has a lot of knowledge about all the different features of the different cars. He has a dream car (can't remember which one) but also knows which color he would get in each of the different kinds of sports cars. He has slowly been buying sports car Lego sets with his birthday money, putting them together, and displaying them in his room. It's fun to see how excited h...
