10 things about Molly

1.  Is still an avid reader.  If you find the right book for her (not terribly hard) she will read it in one sitting, or at least carry it everywhere with her until it's finished.  She seems to be drawn more to fantasy books...her love for Harry Potter continues and she's also read a few other fantasy-type books fairly quickly.

2.  Has stage fright big time.  She gets terribly nervous whenever she has to do anything in front of anyone.  She will do things with big groups (like her whole class or the primary program) but anything much smaller terrifies her.  She was asked to sing in sacrament with Justin and Stockton (a familiar Primary song) but she was in tears just trying to practice at home.  This is also the reason why she ultimately gave up ballet last year...at the end of class they had a couple of minutes of free dance where you could do whatever you wanted.  She would completely freeze up and stand in the corner.  She was so terrified of being laughed at or doing the wrong thing that she would end up in tears.  It was very sad.  She participates in big groups but won't make eye contact with anyone or smile.  She does usually say her part in the primary program though, so that's good.

3. Wants to be an artist when she grows up.  She loves to color or draw and spends a lot of after-school hours at the kitchen table doing just that.  She is really good when she really invests some time into a picture.

4.  Has a genuine interest in Greek mythology.  She loves to listen to the greek myths on storynory and will often pick those type of books from the library as well.

5.  Likes to make up fun little games with Stockton and Brynn.  It usually involves making everyone their own fort or "room" to play in with books and toys.  It is super fun (and messy!) for them.  Molly definitely takes charge and sends the younger two on errands to fetch things and often it's "do it my way or I'm not playing."  Good thing they are young enough not to understand that part...they just have fun.

6.  She has such a sweet relationship with Brynn.  She really coddles her, actually.  She has a lot of patience with her and will go to her rescue anytime she's getting disciplined.

7.  Molly can be a bit of a perfectionist and is easily frustrated if something is not up to her standard.  She likes to organize things...like her pile of Christmas toys or something.  Pictures, letters, drawings get thrown away if they're not just right.  She usually works hard to keep her room clean and is frustrated when someone messes it up.  Anytime she sets up any of her games or forts or anything like that...she takes so much time making it just right and really hates when anything gets moved from its place.

8.  Molly picks her own clothes each day and she definitely has her favorite outfit.  Black pants and a pink peasant-type shirt.  My mom bought it for her at the start of the school year and she wears it as soon as it's been washed.  She also prefers jeans, and skinny jeans above all.

9.  Is such an easy girl to feed.  She eats anything I make for dinner.  She prefers potatoes over rice.

10.  Molly can be so organized and yet so messy.  She leaves her stuff all over the house and I feel like I'm constantly asking her to come and put something away.  It does get incredibly frustrating at times.  Unfortunately for her, she is the oldest and has greater expectations put on her and I think she gets frustrated by that.  It is a balance we are trying to figure out.

Molly is growing up so fast and she desperately wants independence in so many areas of her life.  I am learning where to give and where to stand firm.  It is hard!  I think that parenting an eight-year-old is definitely harder than parenting a newborn or a toddler...and I'm sure it just gets harder.  I'm always second guessing myself and wondering if what I'm doing is the right thing and if it will help her to become who we want and know she can become. Overall she is a great, well-adjusted, funny, sweet, kind girl who tries hard to do what's right and we love her.
